Stamperia Sunflower Art Trifold Folio Tutorial Part 1

Stamperia Sunflower Art Trifold Folio Tutorial Part 1 for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  I’m super excited to share this Stamperia Sunflower Art Trifold Folio Tutorial with you today.  This is Part 1 of a 4-part tutorial series that I’ll be sharing all this week.  We had so much fun with our How to Make a Mini Album from Scratch series that I decided to do another on featuring a simple and versatile folio base design.

Sunflower Art

This collection is one of the most beautiful releases that Stamperia has ever done, in my opinion.  Summer is the time for sunflowers, and I can think of no better way to showcase them!  We’re going to have loads of fun this week, creating this 6″ x 8 1/2″ trifold folio together.

These vibrant papers pair beautifully with Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflowers.  But I added other handmade flowers from my stash to pull out all the glorious colors of summer.

Making a Wrapped Chipboard Folio Bas

If you’ve never made a wrapped chipboard folio base before, I think you’ll enjoy the process.  It is not hard, and does not take too much time, either.  The best part is that when you are done, you’ll have a very sturdy and durable folio base that you can adapt in loads of ways!

If you’re ready to take a tour of this lovely summer paper collection, learn how to build the folio base, add the canvas and patterned paper cover, then I hope you’ll enjoy this tutorial on my YouTube channel.

A Sneak Peek at Day 2

I’ll be back tomorrow with the second part of this 4-part series.  But here’s a sneak peek to whet your appetite and pique your curiosity!

You can find a linked supply list below this post.  I’ll be back tomorrow with Part 2!

Summer Sunflowers Tea Party in a Box Tutorial

Summer Sunflowers Tea Party in a Box Tutorial with Graphic 45 August Time to Flourish

Hello, Friends!  For this week’s Throwback Thursday I have this Summer Sunflowers Tea Party in a Box Tutorial to share with you.  Last week we made our August Time to Flourish Banner with Graphic 45 Time to Flourish.  I had a few bits of the paper left over, and thought you might enjoy making another one of my “scrappy” cards.   It’s always fun to use up those last few bits and bobs of a favorite paper, right?

Rustic Sunflowers

Since the August papers feature sunflowers, I decided to make my own with my Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflower stamps, dies and shaping mold.  Here’s the process that I followed to make them:

  • First, swipe Fossilized Amber, Scattered Straw and Wild Honey Distress ink across a non-stick craft sheet.
  • Next, spritz the ink with a mister bottle until small beads of color form.
  • Now, swipe, tap and pat both sides of an 8 1/2″ x 11″ sheet of Elizabeth Craft Designs Soft White Cardstock through the ink until both sides are covered.
  • If you have blank spots, fill in with Fossilized Amber ink applied with a blending tool.
  • Then dry both sides of the paper thoroughly with a heat gun, or leave to dry for several hours.
  • Stamp the Rustic Sunflowers onto the dried paper using Rusty Hinge Distress Oxide Ink.
  • Next, die cut using the Heartfelt Creations Matching Dies.
  • Then stamp the leaves on scraps of green cardstock and die cut.
  • Shape the flower petals and leaves with the Rustic Sunflower mold following the manufacturer’s directions.
  • Layer the sunflower petals together, staggering the leaves and securing with adhesive.
  • Then cup the center of each flower with a stylus.
  • Fill the flower center with hot glue and let it set up.  Then place a thin layer of Dries Clear Adhesive over the hot glue and sprinkle with Prills. (Espresso Yourself, Power Outage, Copper Penny and Gilt Trip.)
  • Spray the flower petals with mica spray to add a soft sheen.
A Peek Inside

I really had to get creative on the inside of this card, and even had to dip into my stash of July TTF papers.  But we made it work!

Create a sweet tea sachet/gift card wallet with the 4×4 image from the paper collection.  I also topped a blank piece of my cream cardstock with a sunflower to dress up a blank notecard.

Create a shadow border inside the tea wallet with Annette Green’s Lacy Borders dies from Elizabeth Craft.

Floral Shoppe Autumn Flowers Urn

Heartfelt Creations Floral Shoppe Rustic Sunflowers Simply Elegant Centerpiece Die by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 02

What do you do when you have an extra handmade flower or two left over from a project?  Do you ever think to use them in a mixed flower arrangement? The Floral Shoppe Urn is a wonderful way to display those floral “extras.”  I had a few die cut leaves, a few sunflowers, and a small collection of previously stamped Floral Fillers stashed away in plastic boxes.  So putting this lovely fall floral arrangement together was a snap!

TIP: Die cut your floral urn from the Floral Shoppe paper pad.  Then customize it by inking up the matching stamp with clear embossing ink.  Use the die as a template to help you line the stamp up with the die cut image.  Now heat emboss with some Frayed Burlap Distress Embossing Powder to make the details look 3-D.  Finish the urn by sponging on some Rusty Hinge and Gathered Twigs Distress Ink.  This gives the urn a wonderful aged appearance that pops off the card.

Die Cut Your Background

Create a lacy die cut background for your card with the Simply Elegant Centerpiece Die.  Here’s how to make the die fit on a 5″ x 7″ card base.

  • First, stitch 2 layers of patterned paper onto a 5″ x 7″ panel of copper metallic paper.
  • Next, die cut the Simply Elegant Centerpiece from white cardstock.
  • Now, cut the die cut carefully in half.  Adhere one half near the bottom of the card base and the other near the top.
  • You will have a 1″ gap between the two die cut halves.  Fill this space in with a strip of copper cardstock wrapped with a complementary shade of ribbon.
  • Now use foam tape to adhere the sides and bottom of your urn to the card base.  Fill it with flowers and your job is done!
A Peek Inside

Dress up the inside of your card with the center piece of the die cut.  Cut this carefully in half and adhere as seen in the photo.

Create a pocket on the bottom half of your card and tuck in a little notecard/gift card wallet.

Add a fall tea bag and a honey stick.  Now your card is a gift!  You can also tuck a gift card inside if you wish.

On With the Hop!

Be sure to visit all the blogs in the hop and leave some sweet words behind.  This enters you into the drawing for the first $25 gift card.

Finish up the hop over on the Heartfelt Creations blog where you’ll find a wonderful tutorial waiting for you.  Leave a comment to be entered into the drawing for the SECOND $25 gift card.

Rustic Sunflower Shaker Card

Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflower Shaker Card Elegant Pocket Accents by Kathy Clement PHoto 01

Sunflowers are blooming everywhere in North Carolina, so I felt inspired to dig out my Rustic Sunflower goodies to make this cheery shaker card.

  • First, trim a 6×6 card front to measure 5 1/2″ square. Stitch around the yellow border on the 6×6 card front.
  • Now, die cut the center image from a 6×6 card front in the Rustic Sunflower Paper Pad.  This is easy to do if you use the largest Basic Circles Die. Adhere the image to a 5 3/4″ panel of bright yellow cardstock so that it lines up with the opening in the frame.
  • Next, adhere clear cardstock to the back side to create the shaker window and place 3 layers of foam tape around the edges.
  • Place your shaker elements in the center of the die cut circle image. Remove the liner from the foam tape.  Now carefully center the frame over the image and press in place.
  • Use the Rustic Sunflower dies to cut flowers from the paper pad.  Brush with Wild Honey Distress Ink, spritz lightly with water and run through the shaping mold.
  • Now layer flowers together.  Fill the centers with hot glue and glass beads.
  • Die cut the Elegant Pocket Accent from cream cardstock,  Then die cut just the frame from turquoise paper.  Layer the accent piece over the turquoise base and adhere on the top of the card.
  • Arrange flowers, tags, and embellishments as seen in the photo.
A Peek Inside

I like to turn my cards into gifts by adding a pocket and some sweet tuck ins.

Here’s a little tea/gift card wallet and bookmark/tag to sweeten up the inside of this card.

There’s room to write a note inside, too.  Don’t forget to tuck in a honey stick to sweeten the tea!
