Beach Window Twisted Easel Shaker Card

Ciao Bella Sound of Summer Beach Window Twisted Easel Card Amazing Paper Grace Snip It Grid Calendar Die by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

Beach Window Twisted Easel Shaker Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  What do you see out the beach window of this Twisted Easel Shaker Card?  Seagulls soaring high in the sky?  Pelicans diving into the waves?  Or maybe there’s a school of dolphins frolicking not too far from the shore.  Whatever you can imagine, you can see through the panes of my beach window card.  Even though I have not been able to “see” the sea in a long time, my imagination can take me there, and I can enjoy the beautiful coastline that I love so much.

I’ve paired up some luxurious ribbons from the July Ribbon Club Assortment with Ciao Bella’s delightful “Sound of Summer” and Spellbinders Amazing Paper Grace Calendar/Grid Die to create this magical beach scene.  Capri Blue Double Faced Satin Ribbon and Blue Variegated Shell Print Satin Ribbon match the blues in this paper collection perfectly.

TIP: Die cut burlap stars then string as a banner across the top of the window.  Silver shell charms add just a touch of sparkle.

TIP: Die cut flowers from your designer paper scraps for perfectly coordinated florals.

TIP: Alter Reneabouquets Starfish Beauty Board with Little Birdie Crafts Silver Metallic Wax. Then tuck them in with the floral cascade.  This adds a soft shimmer and texture.

A Peek Inside

This style of card is designed to serve primarily as a decorative piece.  But I did manage to add a simple pocket.

TIP: Cluster real shells, flowers, and banner flags together on the pocket flap.  Then dangle a silver seahorse charm from a mini clothespin to create a beachy vignette.

TIP: Don’t be afraid to fold a large image in half.  This 8″ x 5 1/2″ journal card converts into a lovely mini folio.  Add a fussy cut image and decorative key in the corner.  This is the image you see peeking out when the card is opened for display.

Line the inside of the folio with cream cardstock.  You can write a message here, or add photos.

I hope you enjoyed looking through my beach house window with me today.  There is something very calming and relaxing about working with these shades of blue.  If you’d like to see other projects made with the Sound of Summer collection, please click HERE.

Beachy Thank You Shaker Card

Authentique Sea Maiden Beachy Thank You Shaker Card

Hello, Friends!  If you have followed my blog for any length of time, you  know how very much I love the beach.  Two days after Valentine’s Day, Dale and I ran away to the shore to celebrate our 43rd wedding anniversary.  One of Dale’s customers owns a lovely oceanfront condo in Myrtle Beach and gave us great off season rates for a weekend rental.  Can you say heaven on earth?  To thank them for their kindness, I created this Authentique Sea Maiden Beachy Thank You Card.  The color palette of this paper collection matches their decor so perfectly that I (almost) could not wait to get home and make it for them.

My favorite fancy fold card design has to be the easel card.  The fact that they stand upright allows them to double as home decor.  .

TIP: Score a 1/2″ spine when creating the card base to allow the card cover to fold neatly over the floral elements.

Once again, I’ve used a Tim Holtz Vignette Frame as the box for my shaker element. (Learn how to create this shaker frame element HERE.)

TIP: Mat the 3″ wide “stopper” for the easel with waste chipboard.  This will elevate it just enough to act as a brake when the easel card is opened for display.   You can also mat the Sea Maiden oval Cardstock Component sentiment on waste chipboard to further elevate the stopper.

It’s a snap to create this realistic looking seahorse and starfish.  Here’s how:

  • First, die cut a chipboard seahorse and starfish using the Tim Holtz Sizzix Sand & Sea Die.
  • Next, die cut a second seahorse from the pretty blue mosaic tile paper.  Adhere to the chipboard seahorse.
  • Now, Ink the edges with brown Distress Ink.
  • Then cover the entire shape with an even layer of Versamark Embossing Ink.
  • Now place the chipboard in a funnel tray or over a clean piece of printer paper.  Sprinkle on a generous coating of Emerald Creek Fractured Ice Allure Powder.  Remove from the funnel tray, gently tap off the excess and heat emboss. When finished, pour the extra powder back into the jar.

TIP: Prevent burned fingertips by holding the chipboard between tweezers.

  • Let the seahorse cool while you work on the starfish.  Begin by sponging Ground Espresso Distress Ink all over the surface of the chipboard starfish.
  • Next, cover it with Versamark Embossing ink and heat emboss with Fractured Ice, as you did the seahorse.  The brown ink will come through the embossed layer, which looks really cool.  Set this aside and go back to the seahorse.
  • Randomly tap the cooled seahorse with Versamark.  Sprinkle on Seth Apter Dirty Sand Baked Texture.  If you get too much, brush some away with your finger.  Heat emboss as before.  Do a happy dance at the wonderful texture you’ve just created!
  • Repeat this step with the starfish, but add more Baked Sand for realistic texture.

I’ll add a linked supply list below for your convenience.

Heartfelt Creations July Alumni Hop: Seashell Shaker Card with Under the Sea

Hello, Friends!  Are you ready to hop?  Welcome to the July Heartfelt Creations Alumni Blog Hop! You should be coming here from Mary’s lovely blog. I’ll provide a complete hop list at the end of this post.  It’s full on summer here in North Carolina and the hot, humid days have my mind turning to the beach.  Oh, for a walk along the shore with the waves kissing my toes and the sand dotted with pretty shells.  Since I can’t be at the beach in real life, I decided to make this Seashell Shaker Card with the Gorgeous Under the Sea Collection from Heartfelt Creations.

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Photo 1

I’ve had my eye on this gorgeous collection since the day it released over a year ago.  Making a seashell shaker card with these bright corals and deep aquas is almost as good as taking a vacation!

Shake it Up!

Just for fun, I added a little hidden tag between the card front layers.  This is a quick and easy addition thanks to the cut apart page and my faithful Luggage and Tags Die.

Shaker cards are like a party on paper.  This seashell shaker card is filled with a combination of Prills, micro beads, seed beads,  and sequins.

I used the seashell die from Coral Reef Collage to cut my shell out of the Under the Sea paper collection.  Then I sponged  Abandoned Coral Distress Ink along the edges to heighten the pink tones.  Next, I used my Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit, mat and stylus to round out the shell body. Then I glued it to the card base. Finally, I scattered Prills and Seed Beads along the inner edge. A lucky hermit crab gets to live in this glammed up seashell!

Coral Sea Flowers with Enchanted Mums

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 5Making these coral reef flowers was a cinch!

  1. First, stamp the 2 smallest sizes of Enchanted Mums onto the coral dot paper using Abandoned Coral Distress Ink.
  2. Next, heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
  3. Then, use sponge daubers to add a little Abandoned Coral to the centers and the tips of the flower petals.
  4. Now, die cut the flower layers.
  5. Then, shape and stack with the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit.
  6. Finally, add hot glue to center and fill with seed beads.
What’s Inside This Seashell Shaker Card?

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 6

I turned this card into a gift by adding a few extras on the inside.

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 7

You can easily turn a card front into a gift wallet.  Just glue the image to the right hand side of a 4″ high x 11″ long strip of cardstock.  Score on the left and fold.

Then cut down another card front image to serve as a pocket.  Tuck in some of the cute tags from the paper collection along with a gift card and easy as 1, 2, 3….you have a gift card wallet.

I used the scraps on my worktable to make a quick little tag.  These make the best bookmarks, and they also are a great way to brighten up a work cubicle!

Anything But a Card Challenge at RRR

On the Boardwalk Zig-Zag Album for Anything But a Card Challenge at RRR

Hello, Friends!  Really Reasonable Ribbon has issued an Anything But a Card Challenge today, and I have a super fun On the Boardwalk Zig-Zag Beach Mini album to share with you.

On the Boardwalk Mini 01I found that RRR’s Canvas Color Band Ribbon was the perfect pairing for this beachy project. The texture it adds is amazing.  The ribbon is soft and easy to tie into these big loopy bows, too.  I used both the red and the sage throughout the album.

On the Boardwalk Mini 02The album measures 4.5″ x 6.5″ and has a fun accordion fold interior.  I die cut Tim Holtz Sand and Sea and added them to the colorful On the Boardwalk papers from Graphic 45.  Ivory Burlap String adds a light note, texture and a sense of movement to the cover

On the Boardwalk Mini 10The inside of the album is filled with fold out pages like this one….

On the Boardwalk Mini 13tag pockets….

On the Boardwalk Mini 17waterfall pages….

On the Boardwalk Mini 25accordion fold pages…

On the Boardwalk Mini 27pocket pages….

On the Boardwalk Mini 07and even has photo storage on the back side of the album.  This photo gives you a great idea of how cool this zig zag design really is.

I made a YouTube Video so you could really get  a sense of the flow of the album.  There were just too many pictures to put in one blog post.  Enjoy!

I love the way the beautiful Canvas Color Band Ribbon enhances the pages of this sassy little album.

Now you need to get busy and link up your own “anything but a card” project to the Really Reasonable Ribbon Challenge Blog.  You can find all the details HERE.
Want to make one of these albums yourself?  I put together a PDF tutorial that you can download from my ETSY shop.  It has pictures of all the pages, a complete supply list and detailed instructions.  I even tell you how to make those magical chipboard embellies! You can find the tutorial HERE.
