G45 Sneak Peek Week: Imagination Steampunk Card with Handmade Flowers

Imagination Steampunk Card with Handmade Flowers: New Collection!

Hello, G45’ers!  It may be the last day of April on the calendar, but it’s the first day of Sneak Peek Week on the Graphic 45 Blog!  Today through May 2nd, G45 will be revealing the Spring Release Collections.  I’ve had a sneaky peek and I know you are going to be super excited, too.  Lucky me!  I received a few pages of the new Imagine collection last week, and went to work making samples for the reveal party.  This Imagination Steampunk Card uses gorgeous papers and Ephemera Cards along with two of the new G45 Dies.  Let’s take a peek, shall we?

The color palette and images in this collection are inspiring!  It’s as though A Ladies’ Diary bumped into Steampunk Debutante, and Imagine was the result.  This is a softer, more feminine version of steampunk and I found it super fun to work with.

Imagination Steampunk Card: The Clock Focal

I am loving the vintage clock face paired up with this collection. The Square Tag and Clock Dies are fast becoming a “go to” item in my workbasket.  This time, I cut the doily frame from a pearlized bronze cardstock.  Then I cut the clock face from a soft floral pattern from the collection.

Each layer is raised up with dimensionals to give the clock a strong presence in the design.  The center dial is cut from one of the gear corners on the signature page.

And if you love butterflies, you are going to swoon over the gorgeous ones found in this collection.  I fussy cut quite a few, layered them up and added them all the way around the perimeter of the clock.

I’m finding lots of good ways to use the lovely little flourish from the Square Tag and Clock Dies, too.  These corner accents really help tie everything together as well as anchor the design.

The sentiment panel is made from one of the cut apart panels on the border strip page.  I matted this on kraft cardstock.  Then I backed it with waste chipboard to add height.  Finally, I fussy cut the “Imagination” plaque from a second panel, matted it on dimensionals and matched it up carefully.  I love the dimension and simplicity this adds.

Imagination Steampunk Card: The Handmade Flowers

I finally had a chance to play with the G45 Large Tag, ATC Tag and Flowers Metal Dies.  Oooh la la!  Look at these fun steampunk posies!  I cannot get over how beautifully these dies cut through G45’s heavy papers!  One pass through and you’re done!  I added button centers, some Prills and custom dyed seam binding ribbon.

By the way…did you know you can use G45 Decades Dye Ink Pads to custom color ribbon?  Here’s how I did it:

  • First, smoosh the ink pad on your non stick kraft sheet, glass mat or other non-porous surface.
  • Next, mist the ink with water until droplets begin to form.
  • Now, dip and scrunch white seam binding ribbon into this inky pool until it is all soaked up and well distributed.
  • Set aside to dry naturally, or if you are impatient (like me) gently heat dry.

I used Decades Precious Pink to color this ribbon, and it’s a perfect match for the papers.  You’ve gotta love that!

Imagination Steampunk Card: A Peek Inside

The ephemera cards from this collection are soooooo gorgeous!  These are the back sides, if you can believe it!  I’m in love!

More Than All the Fish in the Sea Folio

More than All the Fish in the Sea Folio with RRR and G45 Voyage Beneath the Sea

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  Welcome to summer!  I love all the seasons of the year as each one has its own special beauty.  Summertime is full of color and life…and trips to the beach, my favorite place on the planet! Today’s  project is inspired by the Ocean Breeze Ribbon Club Assortment. I found that the Tropic Double Faced Satin Ribbon is a great companion to Graphic 45’s Voyage Beneath the Sea collection.  So I paired them up to make this More Than All the Fish in the Sea Folio.

This color palette is so perfect for summertime projects.  The blues and greens just pop against the citrusy oranges and yellows.

I created this pretty bow cluster like this:

To give this card a little touch of Steampunk Style, I added a cluster of steampunk gears and cogs.  Really Reasonable Ribbon has a fantastic assortment of gears available in the shop at very good prices.

Adding a snippet of ribbon and gold metallic string to this chipboard charm really gave it a presence on the page.  And do you spy the darling steampunk heart gear in the center of the “O” in you?  These sorts of little details just make my heart happy!

It’s easy to turn a 5″ x 7″ top fold card into a folio.  When you are making your card base, simple score a second line 1/4″ from the first fold line.  Instant folio!

I created a little accordion fold folio on the top of the card interior.  The gatefold opening is tied shut with more pretty tropic ribbon in that fancy shell print.

This is just a sample of the pages inside the folio.  The Voyage Beneath the Sea ephemera card is hinged to the gatefold, creating a secret journal spot.  This also gives you a nice 4″ x 4″ spot for a photo!

The bottom pocket contains a lovely art tag and a large ephemera card.

I created a border on the tag by layering the fancy shell print ribbon over the Tropic Satin Ribbon.  I love the bit of texture, pattern and shine this adds to the tag design. Another snippet of Tropic Satin tops the tag.  And, gold metallic string holds that cute chipboard charm in place.

What do you do with the tag? Well, it can be used as a bookmark, of course.  Or, it can really brighten up an office cubicle.  Some folks have told me that they use them as home decor. They simply display them on small easels and incorporate them into their mantel decor.

You can write your personal greeting on the back of the ephemera card.  Then tuck a gift card, or other small gift into the pocket and there’s no need to go to the shops!

Ribbon Makes it Shine!

I just love the playful, whimsical feel of this More than All the Fish in the Sea Folio.  The ribbon really takes it to the next level, don’t you think? It’s not too late to get your own set of these gorgeous Ocean Breeze Ribbons.  Simply sign up for the RRR Monthly Ribbon Club and Bonnie will send them right out to you.  It will be like having a birthday every month of the year!

I hope I’ve shared some tips and tricks that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

When Pigs Fly Mini Album Tutorial

Frilly and Funkie Saturday Step x Step: When Pigs Fly Mini Album Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  Isn’t Saturday just the most wonderful day of the week?  You can wear your jammies all day long if you feel like it!  I know a lot of us are dealing with the winter blues right now, so I’ve worked up a really fun When Pigs Fly Mini Album Tutorial to brighten up your weekend.  It’s made with Graphic 45’s Olde Curiosity Shoppe Deluxe Collector’s Edition and a whole bunch of dies from my stash.   And, since it is Saturday, I have a YouTube Video Tour AND a Snapguide Tutorial to share with you.  How fun is that?

When Pigs Fly!

You know those little Russian dolls that stack inside one another?  Well, this mini album is a lot like them, because it is a constructed like a mini album within a mini album.  It’s interactive, whimsical and has a fun steampunk/vintage vibe.

The inside pages are made with Tammy Tutterow’s incredibly versatile Paper Bag Envelope Die.  This adds an interactive element , and that always makes me happy!

The flowers are made with Tammy’s Pom Pom Posie Die and printed paper from the Olde Curiosity Shoppe collection.  I took a walk on the wild side and added stamens to the center this time.

This little piggy went to market…via air mail!  I love this piggy so much that I went searching through my considerable button stash in search of this wooden piggy button.  Be still my heart!  And see that cute banner floating beneath Mr. Pig?  It’s made with Tammy’s Shortie Tabs Dies.  Yes, people…I had a Tammy love fest going on in my studio this week!

This chunky little piggy album measures just about 3.5″ x 5.5″ and has a 2″ spine.  I could go on and on…but why don’t you just watch this YouTube video tour so you can see all the details.

When Pigs Fly Snapguide Tutorial

I put together a Snapguide tutorial that covers the basics of building the album base, creating a tab binding system, making the pocket pages and the cute little Mini Tag Books that are used throughout.  I don’t go into decorating the pages…maybe a hint here or there.  But once you know how to build the album base, etc. you can make this album in any theme you choose.  It’s the old “give a man a fish/teach a man to fish” theory in practice.

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card with Graphic 45 Times Nouveau

Hello,, Ribbon Lovers!  August is birthday month in our family.  We celebrate FIVE birthdays this month,! Two of those birthdays are for our sons.  Our eldest son was truly the Leader of the Pack for our 5 children He always had some grand plan in store for his siblings.  Sometimes it was building an Olympic Village in our backyard.  At others, it was building a set for a play. Or constructing an elaborate Lego village.  Whatever idea he had, they followed along with great expectation and enthusiasm.  He was our “Ideas Man.”  So in honor of his birthday, I created this funky Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday card.

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon, Product Times Nouveau by Graphic 45, Really Reasonable Ribbon, Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Gears, Photo 4Isn’t it playful? I used the monochromatic papers from Graphic 45’s Times Nouveau Classic Collection.  Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Gears texture Sheet, and a Steampunk Gentleman add to the fun factor.  And of course, I tied it all together with fabulous Really Reasonable Ribbon.

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon, Product Times Nouveau by Graphic 45, Really Reasonable Ribbon, Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Gears, Photo 1These bold green ribbons are from the Autumn Colors Ribbon Club Assortment.   I love the way they echo the colors and designs in the papers.  To make my border, I layered two strips of Kiwi Green Diamond Satin on the left hand side of the card.  Then I placed a strip of Kiwi Green Square in Square Print Satin between the two. This created a sort of tiered border.

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon, Product Times Nouveau by Graphic 45, Really Reasonable Ribbon, Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Gears, Photo 3Natural Burlap String makes a great masculine bow.  I brightened it up with a scrap of the same Kiwi green ribbon and a custom button.  To make the button,  glue one of the images from the Times Nouveau punch out sheet in the center of a wood button.  Custom embellishments like this add so much to your design.

A Look Inside The Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon, Product Times Nouveau by Graphic 45, Really Reasonable Ribbon, Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Gears, Photo 5A stamped sentiment, a fun pocket and a little tag make the inside of the card almost as much fun as the outside.

Steampunk Ideas Man Birthday Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon, Product Times Nouveau by Graphic 45, Really Reasonable Ribbon, Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts Gears, Photo 6There’s plenty of room to tuck in a gift card or cash gift. I want to add a personal note to the card, so I’ve lined the back side of the tag with ivory paper.

I hope you found some inspiration here today.  Making masculine cards is something I truly enjoy.   This is one of my faves for its whimsical design and playful nature.  I’d love to hear what you think in the comment section below.
