Summer Sunflowers Bee Themed Shaker Card: Scrap Your Stash Project
Hello, Friends! My dear husband recently asked me to identify my favorite flower. Now that is a poser, as I love flowers. But after a few minutes of thought, it came to me: Sunflowers! There’s just something about their sunny faces that lifts my heart. Naturally, this progression of thought led me to create this Summer Sunflowers Bee Themed Shaker Card. This 6″ x 6″ easel style card is one of my “Scrap Your Stash” projects. I hope you will enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it.
Summer Sunflowers Bee Themed Shaker Card: Mix and Match
I’ve been busy doing my summer studio clean up. Overflowing scrap bins provided a real treasure trove of inspiration and materials. First, I cleaned up my cardstock scrap bin, ,where I ran across several 3″ x 5″ and 4″ x 6″ scraps of yellow cardstock in various shades. Perfect for sunflowers! Die cut some layers, do a little shaping, add some fun buttons, and voila! Just like Cinderella, these scraps are ready to party!
TIP: Inks and sprays are a great way to make different shades of cardstock blend together. Stick with colors that are in the same hue family, but some lighter, some darker. Spray or ink the finished flower with mica spray (like Perfect Pearls or Tattered Angels Or Lindy’s Gang) and you end up with a lovely bunch of lifelike looking posies.
Summer Sunflowers Bee Themed Shaker Card: Shake it Up
Die cut a doily shape, then cut out the center with a circle die to make a sunflower shaped shaker frame. Back the doily with clear cardstock that is cut with a slightly large circle die. Then add a triple layer of foam strips to the backside for a beautiful shaker frame! Fill with honey hued sequins against a backdrop of bee papers for the perfect finishing touch. This lovely bow is tied with Champagne Chevron Twill Ribbon from Really Reasonable Ribbon.
Summer Sunflowers Bee Themed Shaker Card: A Peek Inside
I’ve combined papers from my scraps of Graphic 45’s Time to Flourish August papers with Scraps from Craft Consortium’s Tell the Bees Collection. Then, just for fun, I threw in a little Prima Washi Tape from their Lavender Collection. It all works together quite nicely! And although I don’t consider myself to be a stamper, I did enjoy stamping these bee hive and bee images on a bit of scrap ivory cardstock. The lovely bumblebee is from ButterBee Scraps. TIP: Create a quick and easy pocket by cutting the liner paper for the inside of your card a few inches longer than the base. Then simply score, fold and adhere to make a pocket. Dress it up with a pretty border from Time to Flourish.
Since I had enough sunflowers made, scraps cut, and all the mess was already on my desk, I went ahead and made a “twin” card. It’s almost like two cards for the time it takes to make one! Winning!
I have more “scrap your stash” projects in the works, so stay tuned. We all struggle with keeping our scraps from taking over the studio. My hope is that sharing a few ideas with you here every now and again will help you find creative ways to use up product before it takes over your world. How am I doing?
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Cheerio,
kathy
