Sand Sun Surf Beach Banner Tutorial with Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  It’s Wonderful Wednesday, and I have a Sand Sun Surf Beach Banner Tutorial to share with you!  it’s made with some of my favorite Really Reasonable Ribbon trims and flowers, Graphic 45 The Beach is Calling, and Reneabouquets Paper Pretties.

This is a great big banner with 8 pennants in 3 different styles and sizes.  I’ve stitched them onto a Silky Crushed Satin Navy Ribbon with a Navy Stitched Burlap Ribbon Topper.  I think this is my favorite banner so far this year with its sandcastles, beach huts, paddle boards and starfish!

I always follow this sequence when making my banners:

  • First, die cut the individual pennants or tag liners.
  • Next, machine stitch around the edges of each pennant to make a sort of “frame” for the collage.
  • Then, evenly space the pennants along the length of your ribbon.  Use binder clips to hold the pennants in place.
  • Now, top the pennants with lace or a contrasting ribbon.
  • Finally, stitch the pennants to the ribbons.  Stitch a second time along the bottom edge of the ribbon to ensure that the banner lays flat when on display.
  • Now all  you have to do is decorate your banner.

Several of you have asked me if you have to stitch the pennants to the ribbon.  No, you don’t.  You can attach with Fabric-Tac or iron on interfacing.  Or, simply attach your pennants with cute clothespins.

Shaking it Up Down by the Seashore

The central pennant is a G45 Kraft Tag topped with a fun shaker frame.  Reneabouquets Butterflies, Laser Cut Starfish and Tiny Shells help to dress things up.

Beach Flowers

The corner pennants on each end feature Blue/Gold/Ivory Plaid Ribbon Bows topped with Gold Metallic String Bows and lots of pretty mulberry flowers.

Graphic 45 The Beach Is Calling Fun Fold Card Tutorial for Throwback Thursday

Hello, Friends!  Today I’m pulling one of my most popular card designs from the archives to make this Graphic 45 The Beach is Calling Fun Fold Card Tutorial.  When I was a designer for Graphic 45 (2016-2019) I created a fun fold card tutorial featuring By the Sea.  That video has had more than 42K views on YouTube, so I thought I would dig back into the vault and share the design again with a new beach collection.

The Beach is Calling Step Out Card

Step-out cards have been around for a long time.  Usually they measure 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.  But my preferred card size is 5″ x 7″.  So i had to pull out my pencil and paper and do some “mathing” to come up with the measurements for this 7 1/4″ x 5 1/4″ step out card base.  (The measurements can be found in the description box below the video on my YouTube channel.)

This size card gives us lots of “beach front property” to work with.  That means we can add lots of fun details to the design.

Beach Huts, Anyone?

I’m a pushover for a cute little beach hut!  So I’ve featured them on the front of this card.  The fun design I came up with allows the images to wrap around the front panel, so they function as a sort of pop-up element.  You’ll learn how I did this in the video tutorial below.

Make Your Own Embellishment

I also have a weakness for little glass bottles filled with sand.  So I transformed this die cut bottle with a layer of sand, real shells from the beach and cute little tag tied on with burlap string.  You will also learn how to do this in the video tutorial

Shell  in Your Pocket?

Pockets are my weakness.  I love adding them to almost every single thing I create.  So it should be no surprise to you that I found a few ways to add pockets to this fun fold card design.  How about some shells in a pocket?  Or a postage stamp?  But my favorite pocket is the one on the last panel of the card.

I’ll show you how to stack die cut elements to create a perfectly beachy pocket for this cute beach hut.  It’s so easy, but it really makes the card special.

Our sweet granddaughter is celebrating her 12th birthday this week with a beach themed party.  You can probably guess why I made this card.  I’m hoping she will love it!
