Bee Themed Folio with Your Creative Studio and Reneabouquets and Unboxing Video

Hello, Friends!  I began work on this Bee Themed Folio last month just as I was starting to come down with a summer cold that dragged on and on.  (I’m all better now, thanks!)  Because I did not feel like working, I packed the project back into the box of goodies from Your Creative Studio and moved it off my desk.  I found it a few days ago while cleaning the studio, and decided to finish working on it.  So I’m here today to share both the unboxing video and a quick little project share.

Here’s the finished folio.  It’s made with kraft cardstock, burlap panels, papers from the YCV March Bee box and a few goodies from Reneabouquets.  It’s much prettier than this photo shows.  I think perhaps this shade of yellow is difficult for the camera lens to balance.  It measures 5 3/4″ x 8 1/2″ and has 4 folded sections inside.

TIP:  Burlap is easier to work with if you attach it to iron on interfacing from the fabric store.  Then it stitches up like a dream.

A Peek Inside

I designed the folio to serve as a sort of desk companion.  There’s room for a photo or two, but mostly it contains notecards, these cute sunflower sticky notes, pockets, envelopes and a few surprises.

This simple note card set makes a lovely gift.  I’ve wrapped them with a belly band and added one of the cute bee stickers from the YCV box.

Each notecard is 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″.  Paper panels from the YCV box are stitched onto brown cardstock, then matted on cream cardstock.  The inside has a cream cardstock panel that I stamped with the cute honey jar stamp.

Flip Pages

The fourth panel in this folio is a 4″ flip page.  The paper panels and stamps are from the box.  These would also make beautiful, simple note cards.  A belly band holds a bunch of goodies in place on the 2nd panel.

The back side of the flap page is a sweet little kinetic waterfall featuring the 3×3 paper squares from the box.  Buzzing bees adorn the pocket on the 3rd panel, which I have filled with a decorated envelope (product packaging) and a scratch pad.

Here’s a little peek at the sweet bookmark, mini note card and storage envelopes I tucked into this desk companion folio.  You’ll see more in the short video tour below.

If you’d like to see all the goodies that came in the March box and take a better look at the desk companion folio, I hope you’ll enjoy this video.

That’s all for me today, friends.  I have company coming in this weekend, so I need to go do some cooking and cleaning.

You’ll find a linked supply list below this post.

Happy Mail Unboxing Video for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  It’s Make & Take Tuesday, and I have a Happy Mail Unboxing Video to share with you.  I think I have the sweetest online crafty friends on the internet.  Y’all send me all sorts of lovely cards, birthday wishes, gifts, and sweet surprises in the mail.  I’m always deeply touched and humbled when one of you takes the time to make somethings special for me. It’s an amazing thing to feel connected to friends whose faces I have never seen (except in online photos…and sometimes not even then!)

The Jumble Box by Laura Clark

A few weeks ago, Laura Clark asked if she could send me “a little gift”.  She and I have shared some lovely emails, and I am enjoying learning more about her crafting background and her life.  I sent her my mailing address as she requested, and last week, a BIG box arrived in the mail.  Clearly…this was not a simple card, or tag….or even a mini album.

I opened the package to find a box of crafty goodies that Laura had curated just for me.  This is the box that you will see in today’s Make & Take Tuesday video.  Everything inside was gorgeous, and I just had to share it all with you.  I asked Laura if that would be OK, and she said yes.

Of course, I had to dig in and make a couple of cards using only the goodies that came in the box.  Would you like to see what I made?

Slimline Boho Style Card

Slimline Boho Style Card-Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design-Photo 01

Everything you see in this card design came from Laura’s Jumble Box.  I found these sweet 2×2 images and decided they would be mighty cute popped up on top of a 9″ x 4″ slimline card base.  The paper in the Jumble Box was only 8 1/2″ wide, so I created one of my signature mitered corner border backgrounds to fill in the gaps.  I love this carefree, eclectic design!

The little punched birds in the kit are especially sweet, as are the vintage millinery flower clusters.

TIP: Placing the bird silhouettes between the raised tiles helps to tie the design together.  It also leads the eye to travel the entire width of the card. Place foam dots in the center of each silhouette to keep it secure.

Create a simple pocket inside the card and then tuck a little paper lace border on one side to dress up a blank sentiment panel.  To make the pocket, simply cut your paper 1 1/2″ taller than the height of the card.  For this card, that translates to a 5 1/2″ tall panel of designer paper.  Then score a 1 5/8″ line along the bottom, fold, and add gussets to form a pocket.  Create the little tag pocket by only adding adhesive on 3 sides of the tag.  It’s the perfect size to hold a tea back or a gift card.

Time for Tea Pop Up Card

Don’t  you just love yellow and aqua together?  This 7″ x 5″ top fold card base features one of the tea images I found in my box.  Once again, every element (with the exception of the cute teacup clothespin) came in my box!

I could not resist creating a simple pop up card featuring the teacup image. I used the cute 3×3 cards and envelopes as a tea bag wallet to tuck in the pocket of the card.

If you’d like to see all the fun items that arrived in my goodie box, I hope you’ll enjoy this short unboxing video.  I have a full photo array of the cards I made at the end of the video, too.

Sadly, I cannot provide you with a link to The Jumble Box.  I asked Laura if she had a website or a shop where she sells these lovely boxes.  She does not…YET! ‘m sure when you see all the paper pretties that came in the box, you will want her to make them available.  She is thinking about maybe, possibly opening an Etsy shop, but wasn’t sure if anyone would be interested in buying the boxes.

So, now is your chance.  Laura did not ask me to do this, just so you know.  She simply sent me a gift, and I was so impressed that I decided to share it with all of you.  If you’d like to have access to purchasing your OWN Jumble Box, please let Laura know in the comment section below.

I have barely scratched the surface of the goodies that came in my box, and I’m sure you’ll be seeing more.

Thanks for stopping by, friends!

Your Creative Studio Unboxing Video & Sewing Themed Easel Card Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  For this week’s Throwback Thursday I have a fun Your Creative Studio Unboxing video and sewing themed card tutorial to share with you.  We’re going to play with some mixed media products, make this lovely pocket/tag easel card together, and peek inside the December 2022 Your Creative Studio box of goodies.  So grab a cuppa and a snack and we’ll get things rolling.

I had not heard of Your Creative Studio until they reached out to me earlier this month.  “Can we send you one of our monthly boxes for an unboxing video?” they asked me.  Once I took a look at their website to determine if their products were a good fit for my style, I said, “Sure!”

YCV curates a monthly subscription box filled with crafting goodies designed to allow you to create your own quality stationery.  Each themed box is filled with stamps, embellishments, paper, ephemera bits, washi tape and all sorts of goodies that we paper crafters love to have in our stash.  The December box that I received had a sewing theme…one of my all time favorites!

Mixed Media Tag and Pocket Easel Card

And here is what I made with the supplies that came in my box.  I added ribbon, flowers, buttons, inks, gesso,  and the cute scissors from my stash.

The product packaging was so lovely that I used it to make the tag you see here.  We will make this tag and card together in the video tutorial below.

A Peek Inside

Y’all know how much I enjoy adding pockets to my cards, folios and albums.  So this lovely card has two pockets: a small pocket that holds a stack of cute sticky notes from the creative box and a larger one that I’ve filled with some sweet treats.

If you’re going to make a sewing themed card, it’s fun to tuck in some vintage buttons and a little lace trim.  So I did…along with a beautiful note card and a bit of chocolate.  Now the card is a gift!

If you’d like to see what came in my box and learn how to make this sweet sewing themed card, then I hope you will enjoy this video on my YouTube channel.

This was a very fun introduction to Your Creative Studio, and I really enjoyed working with the contents of the box.  Of course, you can use this same card design and concept with supplies that you already have in your stash.  But I’ve also added a linked supply list below this post for your convenience.
