Heartfelt Creations June 2020 Alumni Blog Hop: Sea Breeze Sails in the Sunset Shaker Folio

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Heartfelt Creations June 2020 Alumni Blog Hop!  This month I am longing for the beach, so I chose to create a Sea Breeze Sails in the Sunset Shaker Folio.  So put on a pair of flip flops, grab a windbreaker and join me for a lovely cruise through this interactive shaker folio.

The folio base is a 6 1/4″ x 6 1/4″ x 1/2″ trifold folio constructed from 100# cardstock.  I don’t  have a tutorial this month, but I have a walk through video that is loaded with tips, how to’s and measurements that will help you create your own version of the project.

Creating the shaker frame

Create a shaker frame for the folio cover.

  • First, select a background image from the paper collection and trim it to measure 6″ x 6″.
  • Then select a 6×6 framed card front and cut out a window inside the frame.
  • Use a craft knife and ruler to cut a large “X” from corner to corner of the image.
  • Now insert your scissors and trim away the excess paper.
  • Back the frame with clear cardstock.
  • Use Dries Clear Adhesive and wipe away any smudges.
  • Next, apply foam tape around the perimeter of the frame.
  • Place shaker element in the center of the background paper.  I also added a real sand dollar, auger shell and a tiny shell filled with pearls. A round disc made from shells serves as the rising moon in the scene.
  • Now line up the frame and the background panel and press the foam tape in place.
The Flowers

The floral cascade is a mix of Oakberry Lane, Purr-Fect Posies and Delightful Daisies.  I had previously stamped, colored and layered these flowers for other projects.  But they worked together beautifully with this color palette.  The daisies and purr-fect posies are painted with diluted Distress Ink and a water brush to help them blend harmoniously with the Oakberry Lane flowers.  The finishing touch was a touch of Nuvo Toasted Almond Mousse.  Thin the mousse with water, then tap on lightly with a sponge.

A Peek Inside

Here’s a look inside the folio.  I’ve combined designer papers from Sea Breeze and Under the Sea.

The folio is filled with pockets, flaps, flip pages and interactive elements.

There is also lots of room for journaling.

You Tube Video Tour with Tips and Tricks

To help you see how all the interactive elements work together, I’ve prepared a short video tour with lots of tips, tricks and measurements.

Heartfelt Creations Coral Seahorse Birthday Shaker Card for the Alumni Hop

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the August Alumni Hop!  Today I have a Heartfelt Creations Coral Seahorse Birthday Shaker Card to share with you.  It’s made with the whimsical Under the Sea collection.  See if you can guess which Heartfelt Flower Stamp/Die combo I used?

If you guessed Poinsettia and Holly Clusters, then you are right on target!  Stamp these little beauties with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink.  Then sponge with Abandoned Coral DI. Die cut, run through the Poinsettia Flower mold and you’ve got yourself some coral reef blossoms just like that!

This 5″ x 7″ Top Fold card has a fun interactive pocket and shaker tag on the cover.  Here’s how I did it.

  • First cut a 5″ x 7″ panel of the white/teal woodgrain patterned paper.  Ink the edges very lightly with Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink.
  • Next, cut a 4″ x 6″ panel of the underwater dark teal paper.
  • Then, fussy cut the coral reef scene from the paper collection.
  • Stitch the left and bottom edges of the coral reef scene to the dark teal underwater panel.
  • Now adhere this panel to the woodgrain panel.
  • Die cut the fish/porthole from the paper collection using the Coral Reef Collage Die.  Adhere as seen in the photo.  This is how the pocket is made.
Heartfelt Creations Coral Seahorse Birthday Shaker Card: Adding Embellishments

Look at all the great dimension on this card!  And really, it’s so simple to make.  Here’s how I embellished the card.

  • Brush the sandy bottom of the coral reef scene with Versamark Embossing Ink.
  • Next, sprinkle liberally with Seth Apter’s Dirty Sand Baked Texture.  Heat emboss to create realistic looking textured sand.
  • Cut the Happy Birthday ticket from the paper collection.  Adhere with dimensionals.
  • Die cut the coral reef border from the paper collection using the Coral Reef Collage Die.  Pop up on dimensionals and adhere to lower left corner.
  • Stamp, color and die cut two sets of Poinsettia and Holly Clusters onto white card using Mermaid Lagoon Distress Ink.
  • Run through the Poinsettia Flower Mold.
  • Now layer together with glue.  Add Coral See and Seas the Day Prills to the centers.
  • Then adhere to the card as seen.
  • Finally, tie a double loop bow using Coral Satin Ribbon.

This little 3″ x 5 1/2″ shaker pouch is super easy to make.  Here’s how:

  • Cut a 2 7/8″ x 5 1/8″ panel of the woodgrain paper.  Crop the corners with a Crop-a-Dile Stub punch.  Then ink the edges.
  • Fussy cut the seahorses and greenery from the paper collection.  Adhere to the woodgrain panel.
  • Mat this panel on a slightly larger rectangle of white cardstock.
  • Now cut a 3″ x 5 1/2″ panel of clear cardstock.
  • Next, secure the clear cardstock panel to the shaker pouch base with binder clips or safety pins.
  • Stitch the sides and bottom on your sewing machine.  Leave the top edge open.
  • Fill the pouch with Buttons Galore Ocean Waves Sparkletz.
  • Now stitch the top edge closed.
  • Next, cut the thread so it is long.  Use the top thread to tie on a couple of cute ocean charms.
  • Tie a bow with curling glittery ribbon and adhere .
  • Adhere a cluster of poinsettia in the corner.
  • Insert the tag in the pocket.

Inside the card, I created a couple of cute pockets.  Then I filled them with elements from the collection.  The seashell is die cut from the paper collection, shaped with the stylus, inked with Abandoned Coral DI and adhered to the card.  Tuck a journal card in the pocket and add your personal greeting to the card.

Heartfelt Creations July Alumni Hop: Seashell Shaker Card with Under the Sea

Hello, Friends!  Are you ready to hop?  Welcome to the July Heartfelt Creations Alumni Blog Hop! You should be coming here from Mary’s lovely blog. I’ll provide a complete hop list at the end of this post.  It’s full on summer here in North Carolina and the hot, humid days have my mind turning to the beach.  Oh, for a walk along the shore with the waves kissing my toes and the sand dotted with pretty shells.  Since I can’t be at the beach in real life, I decided to make this Seashell Shaker Card with the Gorgeous Under the Sea Collection from Heartfelt Creations.

I’ve had my eye on this gorgeous collection since the day it released over a year ago.  Making a seashell shaker card with these bright corals and deep aquas is almost as good as taking a vacation!

Shake it Up!

Just for fun, I added a little hidden tag between the card front layers.  This is a quick and easy addition thanks to the cut apart page and my faithful Luggage and Tags Die.

Shaker cards are like a party on paper.  This seashell shaker card is filled with a combination of Prills, micro beads, seed beads,  and sequins.

I used the seashell die from Coral Reef Collage to cut my shell out of the Under the Sea paper collection.  Then I sponged  Abandoned Coral Distress Ink along the edges to heighten the pink tones.  Next, I used my Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit, mat and stylus to round out the shell body. Then I glued it to the card base. Finally, I scattered Prills and Seed Beads along the inner edge. A lucky hermit crab gets to live in this glammed up seashell!

Coral Sea Flowers with Enchanted Mums

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 5Making these coral reef flowers was a cinch!

  1. First, stamp the 2 smallest sizes of Enchanted Mums onto the coral dot paper using Abandoned Coral Distress Ink.
  2. Next, heat emboss with clear embossing powder.
  3. Then, use sponge daubers to add a little Abandoned Coral to the centers and the tips of the flower petals.
  4. Now, die cut the flower layers.
  5. Then, shape and stack with the Deluxe Flower Shaping Kit.
  6. Finally, add hot glue to center and fill with seed beads.
What’s Inside This Seashell Shaker Card?

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 6

I turned this card into a gift by adding a few extras on the inside.

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 7

You can easily turn a card front into a gift wallet.  Just glue the image to the right hand side of a 4″ high x 11″ long strip of cardstock.  Score on the left and fold.

Heartfelt Creations Under the Sea Seashell Shaker Card Photo 8

Then cut down another card front image to serve as a pocket.  Tuck in some of the cute tags from the paper collection along with a gift card and easy as 1, 2, 3….you have a gift card wallet.

I used the scraps on my worktable to make a quick little tag.  These make the best bookmarks, and they also are a great way to brighten up a work cubicle!
