Simple Stories Winter Cottage Flip Folio Tour for Throwback Thursday
Hello, Friends! Today I have a super cute Simple Stories Winter Cottage Flip Folio for our final Throwback Thursday post of 2021, I think you’re going to love the sweet images and wintry hues of this lovely paper collection. Released in 2020, it’s a great choice for both Christmas and winter crafting.
Flip folios are so much fun to make. They all begin in pretty much the same way: join two long sections of cardstock together, then score and fold to create the base folio and pages. I’ve made dozens and dozens of these little folios over the years, each one a bit different than the last. I never get tired of finding new ways to score and fold paper. You can see several examples of one’s I’ve made in the past HERE. This one measures 6″ x 6″ with 3/4″ spines.
Let it Snow
Don’t you love the way the snowy village in the foreground creates a resting place for this lovely tag from the collection? You create a real sense of depth and dimension when you tuck the sweet snowman image from Reneabouquets behind it. Then, use wintry flowers and Beautiful Board snowy branches to frame the cover.
What is it about kids in snowsuits, hats, scarves and mittens that makes for such great photos? I love seeing pics of our grandgirls with their cheeks all rosy red from frolicking outside in the snow. So I made sure to include lots of room for photos in the design of this folio. A 6″ x 4″ waterfall feature inside the front cover works great for this!
TIP: Add a little extra fun to a waterfall feature with ephemera tabs. Simply adhere the top part of an ephemera tab to the bottom of a waterfall page. It looks great, and adds room for a little journaling, too.
Creating the Folio Base
To make the base for this folio, follow these easy steps:
- First, cut (2) 12″ x 6″ panels of heavy white cardstock. Overlap the 6″ sides about 1/4″ and secure with your favorite adhesive. I like to use 1/4″ Scor-Tape, because it helps me keep everything in a straight line.
- Next, place the length of the joined papers on your scoring tool. Score at 6″ and again at 6 3/4″. Fold on the 6 3/4″ scored line and repeat.
- Now score the remainder of the panel at 5 3/4″. You’ll have one short panel on the far right hand side.. Accordion fold the panels to fit inside the 6″ covers.
Now join 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ panels of pink cardstock to form the little accordion fold pull out page. Score every 3 3/4″ all the way down the length. The final “flap” piece is adhered behind the far right hand base page.
Decorate the pages with tags, stickers and chipboard from the collection.
This photo shows how the pink accordion folio slips behind the final panel.
Tea Party in a Box
The center panel is a box pocket with everything you need to warm up and refuel after a fun day in the snow. There’s a tea bag, honey stick, chocolate, cookies and a little spoon to go with the tea tucked inside.
Once all the treats have been consumed, you can store photos inside the box pocket.
TIP: Make mini folios from 4″ x 6″ images and 8 1/2″ x 6 1/4″ panels f cardstock. Simply score the panels in half, then line with scraps of designer paper.
