Photoplay December Year with My Gnomies Folio Tutorial for Make & Take Tuesday

Hello, Friends!  It’s Make & Take Tuesday, and it’s time to share this festive Photoplay December Year with My Gnomies Folio Tutorial with you.  Something about this folio makes me think “winter carnival” and ice skating and ribbon candy.  What a fun color palette and theme to play with!

This is our very last Year with My Gnomies folio!  When we started this series back in January of this year,  it seemed like it would take forever to work our way through all the months.  But, lo and behold, we blinked…and here we are creating the December folio.  And you know what?  Maybe we saved the best folio for last!  Everything about this month’s folio says “Merry and Bright!”  Let’s take a closer look, shall we?

December Folio Details

First, we have to talk about this adorable shaker element on the folio cover.  I’ve used a Reneabouquets Shaker Box to create this little snow globe filled with all kinds of fun shaker elements.  Icy blue buttons and snowflakes circle the rim, and brightly colored jingle bells (they really jingle!) hang from the ribbon cluster.

And just look at our gift-bearing gnome in the bottom corner!  Don’t you just love him?  I’ve surrounded him with another homemade poinsettia, a frosted bottle brush tree, and some Christmas Baker’s Twine.

TIP: Alter a bottle brush tree with Art Institute Dries Clear Glitter Glue and Stampendous Shabby Green Embossing Enamel.  Simply brush the glue on the tree branches.  Then lay  the tree down in a funnel tray or over a piece of clean printer paper.  Sprinkle liberally with the embossing enamel, turning the tree by the base to get all the sides.  Then set it aside to dry.  DO NOT HEAT EMBOSS!

A Peek Inside

We’ve used the same basic format for each folio in this series.  So once again, our folio measures 6″ x 6″ with a 3″ flap page.

Here’s a look at the folio with the flap page open.

There’s no shortage of tags, journal cards and mini folios to tuck inside the pockets of this interactive folio.  It’ s so much fun to make and to give.  Best of all, you can use the basic folio design with any paper collection for any theme.

November Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial with Photoplay Year with My Gnomies

Hello, Friends!  Can you believe that it’s already time for me to share our November Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial?  Where has this year gone?  November means Thanksgiving in the USA.  And Thanksgiving just happens to be my favorite holiday.  Our gnomes this month seem pretty excited about the holiday, too.  How cute is that little Pilgrim gnome?  And do I spy turkey and pumpkin pie?  I believe I do!

Our shaker box this month is a gorgeous Reneabouquets Layered Pumpkin.  I’ll show you how to put it together in the video tutorial below.

Pops of teal in the ribbons and flowers pick up on the teals from the paper collection.  It makes for a warm and cozy feeling paired up with the russet tones of our pumpkin shaker box.

I even managed to find a teal pumpkin in my stash!

If you are new to my blog, or haven’t seen this year-long series, you can find the previous 9 tutorials HERE.

A Peek Inside

Just like the previous folios, this one is filled with flips, flaps,  pockets and mini folios.

Just think how fun it will be to fill this folio up with photos of your family Thanksgiving!  These memories are the things we will cherish all our lives, and it’s so nice to have a spot to capture them!

A Peek Inside

Each folio in this year-long series follows the same basic layout and design.  If you’re new to the series, you can get caught up on the previous 9 folios HERE.

I did change up the design a little bit this month, because the images on the Cards page are laid out differently.  So you’ll learn how to make some new mini-folio inserts this go round.

The center pocket is as stuffed as a Trick or Treat bag at the end of the night!

Only these treats won’t cause any cavities!

September Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial

Photoplay Year With My Gnomies September Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  The gnomes are headed back to school for this September Gnome of the Month Folio Tutorial.  September?  Yes…September!  How can that even be possible?  Time for moms and dads to break out the back packs, new sneakers, pencils and pads.  Summer really, truly is winding down once the kids start back to school!

These gnomes seem to be ready for some reading, writing and arithmetic lessons.  I had loads of fun putting this 6×6 shaker folio together for you today.

A ribbon closure of blue gingham seemed to be a prudent plan for this slightly chunky folio.  I’ll share all the details and how-tos in the video tutorial below.

A Peek Inside

How do you feel about these bright, primary colors?  It’s just like opening that new box of Crayolas on the first day of school!

If you’ve been following along with this year-long series, then you know how quick and easy it is to make this monthly folio.  But, if you’re new, or you need to get caught up on past months, you can find them all HERE.

There’s lots of room for photos, special dates and journaling in all the little pockets and tuck spots.

Remember the first day of school?  I walked with my best friend Robin up the long, long hill to our neighborhood 2 room schoolhouse.  Filled with anticipation and ready to conquer the world, I was a bit disappointed when the first day centered around getting our desks properly adjusted to the length of our legs and coloring a big red apple.  Already reading, I went home and told my mother that I would not be going back the next day as I already knew how to color.

But I did…because you just didn’t argue with Mom.

If you’d like to follow along as I make this month’s folio, please enjoy this video tutorial.  I was racing a thunderstorm, so it moves along fast!  We almost always lose power in a thunderstorm, and I did not want to end up in the dark.

What’s your favorite memory from your very first day of school?  I’d love to hear about it in the comment section below.
