Throwback Thursday Use Up Your Scraps! Carta Bella Flower Garden More than a Card
Hello, Friends! Are you ready to use up your scraps? Nothing makes me happier than clearing out a bunch of scraps from a favorite collection. That is, unless I use those scraps to make something fresh and pretty! So for this week’s episode of Throwback Thursday, we’re making this garden themed card using ONLY scraps from Carta Bella’s Flower Garden collection.
Sound like fun? Well, it was fun! I even challenged myself to use only scraps of white cardstock to make the card base and interior mechanisms, too. That’s a double win my friends!
My card base is 5 1/2″ x 6″. Why? Because I had created a little quad folio with a 12×12 sheet of white cardstock some time back. Sadly, when I made a cut along the scored edge, things went off the rails. So I had set this base in the “we’ll talk about this later” pile. I was able to make the boo-boo useable by trimming 1/2″ off the bottom edge. And that’s how I ended up with a 5 1/2″ x 6″ card base.
A Peek Inside
This is one of my “more than a card” creations. I had the other part of the quad folio laying on my desk when I realized it would fit inside the card base. (See the top half of the card.)
Then I found a little gift card wallet from an earlier project that I had cast aside because of the odd dimensions (3 3/8″ x 4 1/2″) . Don’t even ask me how that happened. Let’s just say I probably should have taken a lunch break. However, it made a really cute gift card wallet inside this card.
I am happy to report that I had no useable scraps left over after completing this project! What a great feeling!

What a beautiful way to use up your scraps!! I never feel like I have to go out and buy new papers, when it is the details that make the project anyway. You have displayed that perfectly with this project. Thank you for helping artists see that you can still craft even when you are on a budget.
Adorable card …with of course your magic scraps! Or I should say your magic fingers! Just beautiful …luv all the bees and the inside is just gorgeous too! Thank you Kathy for another great tutorial and all the inspiration! Hugs, Suzy Q

Beautifully done! I love making A2 cards with my scraps, always a fun challenge. My 91 years old sister-in-law who lives in California, lets me know what she needs and what greetings too…yes, she’s very spoiled! I am usually able to make several cards from one of the collections. Yours is very special, and the black just sets all of the different colors. So love your “Throw back Thursdays!
Amazing what you can do with scraps !!! Too cute and I love the bees !
Love, love, love watching you in action. I have just gotten into this concept of multiple layering. The magnet you used, where can I order them?
Pretty nice scraps!!!! Love spring and planting time, I enjoy seeing the flowers coming up and saying hello after a long winter. Nature is grand. Love the “card”. 😉
