A Very Victorian Mixed Media Christmas Card Tutorial for Little Birdie Crafts
Hello, Friends! I just love traditional red and green Christmas cards, don’t you? But every once in a while, I like to go off the beaten path and play with non-traditional Christmas colors. And that’s how this Very Victorian Mixed Media Christmas Card Tutorial for Little Birdie Crafts came into being.
Little Birdie asked me to create a Christmas project this go round. Since I did not have any Little Birdie Christmas papers, images or flowers, I had to get a little bit creative on this one. So after I did a lot of thinking with my thunker, I decided that this pinkalicious Christmas card could pass muster. What do you think?
This is a 6″ x 6″ top fold card made with papers from the Vintage Reflections and Aquarelle 12×12 paper packs. I selected the “Celebrate” chipboard from the Birthday Wishes Primed Chipboard package. I selected the candy cane image from a Gecko Galz Altered Christmas Digital Download.
TIP: To add lots of dimension to a project, print the image twice (3″ x 4″). Cut out the candy cane and flower cluster from one image. Adhere the cut out image to the print using dimensionals. This makes a small image really POP on the page.
Very Victorian Mixed Media Christmas Card Tutorial: The Flowers
Little Birdie Camila Moonlight Flowers come with foliage stems and coiled wire stems. The Rosemund Pink Roses are soft and delicate, and I just love the fact that they come on stems with foliage and berries attached. To add texture, dimension and fullness to the floral cluster, I tucked in Green Allium Foliage and Green Ferns. The feathers from my stash help carry out the vintage vibe.
Fantasy Rose Shimmer Satin Ribbon is the perfect color match for the floral cluster. To add even more dimension and contrast to the flowers, dry brush on a mixture of Grainy Texture Paste and Fire Brick Metallic Paint. While digging around in my Christmas embellishment stash, I found these miniature pink ornaments. Sometimes it does pay off to pick up random things on sale!
Victorian Style is all about excess and abundance. It was fun to take this creation over the top with florals, embellishments, texture and dimension!
Very Victorian Mixed Media Christmas Card Tutorial: A Peek Inside
The interior of the card is very simple, but still lovely. The slash pocket is the perfect spot to tuck in a gift card or small treat. The sentiment and ticket are also from Gecko Galz Altered Christmas.

The purples and pinks are so unexpected from traditional me, AND I love it! This card folio just pops and shouts Merry Christmas and means it! Gorgeous flower bouquet!

This beautiful Christmas card will be remembered for a long time…fantastic farewell project!!
Hi Kathy a wonderful card and a really useful snapshot. I love the colours and flowers, the depth you’ve created is amazing. I’m sure your time at the Little Birdies blog has been so useful, I certainly have enjoyed the inspiration you’ve shared. Xx
WOW Kathy!!! This card is very beautiful! Luv the pinks! It’s very vintage, very Victorian looking to me! And the flowers are a big WOW factor! This card would definitely take center stage on a oak fireplace mantel with lots of pink and cream decorations …for years to come!!!! I adore the shabby Victorian look! This is a farewell card to behold! Awesome snapguide! Thanks very much for sharing all the details! Hugs, Suzy Q
Kathy, that is such a gorgeous card! Wow, you are really putting me in the mood for getting my Christmas card stuff going. I’ll be out in the girl cave today getting everything in order. I have always been sort of a color traditionalist for Christmas but I am really liking the pinks and fuchsia you are using. Maybe time to get out of my comfort zone. The colors you’ve used in this card are breathtaking and I love that little candy cane. Nothing much says Christmas more than a candy cane! Thank you so much for sharing! Hugs
