Vintage Autumn Leaves Thanksgiving Card

Vintage Autumn Leaves Thanksgiving Card

Hello, Friends!

Even though it’s still quite warm here in North Carolina, our leaves are just starting to be tinged with color.  It’s as though Mother Nature dips her paintbrush into pots of gold, vermillion and scarlet while we are sleeping.  Next thing you know, the trees will be ablaze with glorious color, and then those same leaves will begin to float down to rest on the earth.  It’s a time of year that’s filled with splendor, and to celebrate it, I created this Vintage Autumn Leaves Thanksgiving card using gorgeous Really Reasonable Ribbon and the Fall Harvest Creativity Kit from Polly’s Paper Studio .

Kathy by Design for Polly's Paper Studio 01This vintage autumn leaves image creates a wonderful feeling of nostalgia for me.  I decided to pick up on the wonderful shades of red and gold by adding red stitching and matting everything on Cherry Cobbler cardstock.

Kathy by Design for Polly's Paper Studio Fall Creativity Kit 03The Fall Harvest Creativity kit is filled with wonderful vintage ephemera bits.  I took one of the pieces and ran it through an embossing folder that had been inked with Aged Mahogany Distress Ink.  I love the texture this adds to the composition of the piece.  I also stamped along the bottom edge of one of the 4″ x 6″ paper panels that comes in the kit, then I sewed the panel on my machine without any thread.  This is a really quick and easy way to pierce paper!

Kathy by Design for Polly's Paper Studio Fall Creativity Kit 02Three wood buttons were sewn onto a small piece of white burlap, and then I used my Zutter Bow-it-All Tool to tie up some Ivory, Rust and Gold Plaid ribbon into a double layer bow. To add even more texture to my design, a belly band of Antique Gold Faux Wired Ribbon was added behind the focal image.

Kathy by Design for Polly's Paper Studio Fall Creativity Kit 05I wanted to give you a real close look at this metal maple leaf.   I used some pliers to round the edges and then tapped it with Viva Decor 3-D Stamp Paint in copper, gold and crimson.  It lends such a lovely shimmer to the leaf and pulls out the red tones in the paper and the focal.  I tied a loopy string bow with gold metallic string and Red Burlap String, added the little metal acorns and glued it all onto the leaf.  This is probably my favorite element on the card.

Kathy by Design for Polly's Paper Studio Fall Creativity Kit 04The inside of this Thanksgiving Card is finished very simply with a computer journaled sentiment, a little stamping and a strip of the paper from the front of the card.

Have the leaves started turning in your neck of the woods?  It’s such a beautiful season…and I hope you get time today to just drink in some of that beauty to refresh your soul.

As always, if you’d like to purchase this Vintage Autumn Leaves Thanksgiving Card, you can find it in my ETSY shop.

Thanks for stopping by!

Cheerio,

kathy

As so many others have expressed their interest in that Maple leaf, so must I. Simply stunning Kathy, looks like the real thing. We have plenty of those falling around here. Our mornings are now very frosty and cold. The winter nip is in the air. I love these kinds of mornings, crisp and lovely to walk. The dogs don’t seem to mind the cooler air now either.
Your card is truly lovely Kathy, as are you!!!! Can’t wait to see what you do next.

The colours are gorgeous, rich and warm. So many different layers and dimension to this beautiful card Kathy. Leaves are starting to change colour and look lovely. Not much warmth around at the moment and it’s really chilly at times. We may even get a frost tonight. X
