What’s Your Style: Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog Challenge #1
Oh, what a beautiful morning! Doesn’t matter one little bit to me what the weather is doing today, because today is the day I share my first design team project for the Craft Hoarders Anonymous Challenge Blog. I’m on the totally fabby team B with my buddies Amber, Christy, Debbie, Ginny, and Ann Marie.
Our assignment for this first challenge is called, “What’s Your Style?” Here’s the deets in the words of our fearless leader Gloria Getgen Stengel:
“Share a project that showcases your signature style. Dig into your hoard and pull out items that make you shout with crafty joy! Whip up something that has your creative name all over it. Do you, because no one is youer than you!”
So, without further ado, here’s the project I made to showcase my style:
This is a 10×10 frame that I altered with ABC Primer papers from Graphic 45. Yes, folks, I am a vintage lovin’ gal. I primarily create cards, but I also love altered art…and mixed media…and scrapbook layouts. But I always seem to find my work ends up with a vintage vibe, no matter what I do.
I also love to create vignettes in my work. A vignette, in case you were wondering, is a short impressionistic scene that focuses on one moment or creates an impression about a character, idea, setting, or object Here, I’ve clustered several metal, wood and paper embellishments that help to tell a story and create a mood. I am very prone to doing this in my work.
Another element of my style is to add distressing to age or highlight a project. You’ll often seen torn, distressed, inked edges in my creations. And layers. Lots of layers. Sometimes they are neat and tidy, sometimes they are a little shabby chic. But you will probably never ever see a single layer project from me. I think they are great, but I don’t seem to have it in me to make them.
You will generally find ribbons or flowers in my work. Or, as you see here, ribbons AND flowers. I like them. They make me happy. So I use them. A lot.
The other thing I like to do in my work is to create hidden pockets, envelopes and hiding places for journaling, tags or other surprises. This little math book actually opens, for instance. You can write a note here. I think they call this whimsy. Whimsy makes me happy, too.
So, my friends, that is me. That’s who I am. That’s how I create. But I want to know who YOU are! And this is your chance to share your style with the rest of us craft hoarders out there. Follow these Challenge Rules to create a card, layout, mixed media, altered art, or any other paper crafting project that answers the question “What’s Your Style?” You must link your project to the CHACB blog before midnight PT on February 15th. We’ll be visiting you, and can’t wait to get to know you better. And, your project could be chosen as the winner for this lovely prize package from this month’s sponsor,.
Gloria Stengel is the sponsor for this month’s challenge. Now those are some amazing goodies to add to your personal hoard, so come play with us!
That’s it for me today, friends! Thanks for stopping by. Your visits and your comments make me happy right down to the tips of my crafty little fingers.

Kathy, love your frame!
TOTALLY AWESOME!! You know this is MY style too and I love all the extra little ‘tidbits’ of information you have shared in this posting! I did not know what a VIGNETTE was … thanks for sharing that! And, I love your little ‘vignette’ grouping on this fabulous piece of art! Great job (as always) and wonderful detail. YOU ROCK girlfriend!! AWESOME!!
HI Kathy. Your piece is awesome! Such an adorable frame and very much YOU! 🙂 You taught me something in your piece this morning by telling all of us what a “vignette” is. I do that too…but didn’t know it had a name! haha I also love little hidden pockets and things that make a piece interactive and interesting. Love the G45 papers you used. Love your design. Your little flower is so sweet and definitely your feminine touch. Love the torn, distressed edges. I, too, am a loving of all things vintage and this is such a sweet representation of that and of your beautiful work! <3 Candy
