Wonderful things happen when you organize your fall paper stash!  That’s where I found the paper and image for this vibrant Autumn Love All Occasion Card.  I have no idea where or when I bought it, and I only had one sheet, but that was all I needed to make this 5″ x 7″ top fold card.

Ribbon to the Rescue

Autumn Love All Occasion Greeting Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon Photo 2Normally, I layer up at least 3 or four different patterned papers when I make a card. I like the contrast and depth this provides.  Since I only had one piece of double sided paper, I needed to find a way to add a little visual interest to this card.  Ribbon to the rescue!  Here’s how I used ribbon in lieu of patterned paper

These ribbons add color, pattern, texture and dimension, taking the place of paper very nicely.

Autumn Love All Occasion Greeting Card: The Bow Cluster

Another great way to add pattern, texture and dimension to a card is in the bow cluster.

First I created a double layer bow from Tangerine Taffeta Ribbon with a little help from my Zutter Bow-it-All Tool.  Then I made a smaller double loop bow from the leaf ribbon and hot glued it on top.  Next, I tied a double loop bow from Natural Burlap String and topped it off with a gorgeous Mixed Earth Tone Chrysanthemum.   Ink a  couple of mini pumpkins with Vintage Photo Distress Ink and glue those in, too.  The more the merrier!

Autumn Love All Occasion Greeting Card: A Peek Inside

What’s in the pocket?  I put together a quick recipe card for one of my favorite fall cookies.  And what goes better with  fall cookies than a nice hot cup of tea?

I hope I’ve shared some tips and tricks that you can use in your own crafty adventures.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section below.

Chin Up Buttercup!

Chin Up Buttercup Tri-Fold Encouragement Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon

RRRBadge

Hello Ribbon Lovers!  I have had the best time this month playing with the Citrus Ribbons in the June Ribbon Club Assortment!  I have played and played with these pretty ribbons and used up just about every single scrap.   I had just enough left to squeeze in one more June Ribbon Club project before we turn the calendar over to the month of July.  I think you’re going to get a grin or two out of this Chin Up Buttercup tri-fold greeting card made with Simple Stories Bloom and Grow papers.

It’s pretty hard not to smile when you’re working with these sunshiny ribbons! To begin this card,   Tangerine Delicate Stitched Satin and Citrus Striped Chevron Grosgrain were layered to create a header. Then I topped this with a little medallion that says, appropriately, “Chin Up Buttercup!”

Next, I wove Citrus Paint Splatter Grosgrain through the pickets in this rusted garden fence.  Then I got busy layering up a double bow made with the last of my Maize Diamond Satin Ribbon and the Paint Splatter Grosgrain.

I’ve been walking in my neighborhood every morning, and finding the most gorgeous mailbox gardens I’ve ever seen, and that inspired me to fill this fence in with a bounty of pretty Petaloo flowers.

Now take a peek at the inside of the card, with just the first panel opened.

And here it is opened all the way up. Honestly, I can’t look at this card without grinning…it’s those gnomes!!!!

Finally, I stuffed the pockets with cute tags and postcards.  Imagine how much fun it would be to receive this in the mail!  It would turn a frown upside down in a hurry! That little snippet of Maize Honeycomb Satin was just the right size to slip into that red paperclip and top with a button.  The card says, “Don’t let the little things bug you.”

I loved this ribbon club so much that I kind of hate to see the month of June fade away. But it’s all good….July brings a brand new ribbon club assortment with it, and since I’ve had a sneaky peek of it, I know it’s going to be fun to play with, too!

Thanks for stopping by!  Now go get your craft on!

Give Me the Simple Life

Give Me the Simple Life: RRR May Ribbon Club Assortment and Authentique “Homestead”

Hello, Ribbon Lovers!  Give me the Simple Life…and some Really Reasonable Ribbon, of course! How about we start the day with a sweetly vintage card featuring the May Ribbon Club Collection from Really Reasonable Ribbon?  Have you seen these fabby ribbons yet?  This  red, white and blue color palette is one of my favorites.  It’s perfect for Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July and other patriotic projects.  I super love them!

So many pretty ribbons to choose from! This collection is also great for vintage cards and layouts..  Take a peeky at how I used them in this darling card made with Authentique’s “Homestead” paper collection.

Give Me the Simple Life 02

See what I mean?  They look amazing with these vintage papers! I created a belly band with paper from the collection, and then added beautiful Electric Blue Double Faced Satin Ribbon above and below it. This was topped with festive Random Patriotic Stars on White Grosgrain Ribbon.  To give it a little more of a vintage vibe, I lightly tapped the ribbon with Tea Dye Distress Ink before layering it on with 1/4″ Scor-Tape.  I really love the way that Scor-Tape holds ribbon and keeps the ends from fraying!

Give Me the Simple Life 01

The top of my  banner flag is festooned with gorgeous 3/8″ American Flag Print Satin Ribbon.  I love the way this draws the eye to the stitching detail on this denim-backed banner flag.  The red burlap panel adds wonderful texture and plays along with the vintage Americana vibe of the card.

Give Me the Simple Life Close Up

I painted a bottle cap with Picket Fence Crackle Paint, then added a circle punched rooster to the center.  A little straw and some speckled brown eggs were added just for fun.  This cute embellishment is layered on top of a die cut star, and with the smaller star in the upper right corner, it serves to “frame” the focal image.

Give Me the Simple Life Bow

Now let’s talk bows!  Thie double layer beauty on my Give Me the Simple Life card was created with 5/8″ Red Plaid Ribbon and more of that glorious American Flag Print Satin. My vintage button is threaded with ivory burlap string.  I don’t know how I ever managed to tie a bow without the help of my trusty Zutter Bow-it-All Tool! (Enabler alert: Bonnie has the 2.0 version on SALE in the shop…and is now taking Pre-orders for the all new 3.0 version.  And, it’s almost Mother’s Day.  Just sayin’!)

Give Me the Simple Life Interior View

Lately, I’ve been on a kick where I’m going wild finishing the inside of my cards.  It’s so much fun, and it turns a simple card into a real gift. In this Give Me the Simple Life card, I added a pretty border of the American Flag Print Ribbon along with layered papers and images from the collection.  The right hand side has a slash pocket that I filled with a pretty tag that can be used for  home decor.

Give Me the Simple Life Tag Pocket
I embellished the tag with a sticker from the Authentique “Homestead” Collection, and then you
know I had to get into my embellishment stash and search for something fun to add to the mix.
This little wooden washboard was inked with Vintage Photo DI, then draped with a scrap of Red Plaid Ribbon.  The end result made me so happy, I confess, I clapped my hands for joy!  Then I added a novelty apple button, a vintage clip, and more ribbon and burlap string to the top of the tag to finish it off.  I think this card could be used for a kitchen shower or a birthday present, and it would make a fantastic housewarming gift!
The versatility of these ribbons is so exciting: nautical themes, sports themes, kitschy kitchen projects, vintage cards like this one, and of course, patriotic projects!  What would YOU make?  I’d love to hear your ideas for using these glorious ribbons in the comment section below.
