Mushroom Mansion Birthday Card

Mushroom Mansion Birthday Card with Really Reasonable Ribbon & Stamperia Clockwise

Hello, Friends!  I made this Mushroom Mansion Birthday Card for our oldest son’s birthday.  He’s a very talented wood turner and mushroom boxes are one of his favorite things to make.  (You can find out about him HERE.)

How much do we love this happy little snail?  Peter has also created mushroom fairy houses complete with little snails like this one. So he was tickled with this cute card creation, and knew immediately that I was riffing off his adorable mushroom designs.  And I had a blast putting this design together.

Masculine Mushroom Mansion Card Tips and Tricks

Making a masculine card can be a tricky business.  But with a few easy tips and tricks you can pull it off with ease.

  • First, choose good papers.  These Stamperia Clockwise papers had a strong masculine vibe, so I knew they would help move this card design over into the masculine column.
  • Next, Choose good trims.  Instead of making a frilly bow (as I  usually do) I created a textured bow with twine and string.
  • Thirdly, use ribbon as a border instead of a bow.  I used a stitched burlap ribbon, but grosgrain ribbon would work beautifully here.
A Peek Inside

The pocket inside this easel card doubles as the stopper.  It’s one of my favorite tricks.  I could not believe it when I found this stamp sentiment in my stash.  Did Spellbinders know that my son’s company is called Deep Roots Workshop?   Then I created a little burlap string “nest” for my Mushroom wax seal.  After the wax set, I painted the ‘shrooms with copper acrylic paint.  So fun!

Changing Seasons….

Now I need to make a little announcement.  As many of  you know, our oldest daughter had her first baby in mid-June.  Oh, how I have enjoyed getting to know this precious grandson!  I’ve been going over to help her once a week ever since David was born.  Pure joy!

But now her maternity leave is up, and sadly, she must go back to work.  I have decided that I want to be able to help her out with childcare 3 or 4 days a week, depending on her schedule.  So I have had to cut back on my teams once again in order to keep the world spinning in place.

This is my last post as a member of the Really Reasonable Ribbon Design Team.  I can’t believe that I have been with this wonderful team for over 13 years!  I guess time really does fly when you are having fun.

I will also be stepping down from the Spellbinders team at the end of October.  That has been another really fun crafty adventure for me!

Not disappearing…just downsizing!

Rest assured, I will continue to post my Wonderful Wednesday tutorials.  Button Farm Club Quarterly Card Kits are also on my schedule, and I will try to fit in other kits as I have time.  So I’m not disappearing….just downsizing for a season so I can help my daughter and care for my precious grandson.

Just wanted to let y’all know so you don’t worry!

You can find a linked supply list below this post.

Thanks for stopping by, friends!

Time is precious and with little ones you don’t get to try later! I have enjoyed the sharing throughout the year and it amazes me how you have managed to fit so much in between family commitments and life in general. In a blink of an eye your grandson will be walking and talking and this time with him will be cherished.

Happy to hear that you will be able to spend so much precious time with your grandson. Your daughter must be so happy! The card for your son is fabulous-I checked out his woodwork and he’s definitely very talented. I am glad that you’re still going to do Wonderful Wednesday as I love seeing your beautiful creations.

That our adult children trust us to help care for their offspring is such an honor! Many are never offered this wonderfully satisfying opportunity of sharing in the raising of another generation. For 6 years, I was my daughter’s full time nanny for 2, then 3, children. She was a practicing pediatrician, hubby was in residency and fellowships (pathologist). The grands (now in college and high school) and I often speak of our shared memories of those years. I particularly enjoyed your projects for Really Reasonable Ribbon…grateful for postings I can return to on your Blog and via PINTEREST. Thank you, Kathy, for encouraging us to create beautiful projects. Your tutorials and process videos have taught me countless new techniques! Your life, in these coming years, is going to be an interesting balancing act…enjoy!

Such a fabulous birthday card for your son Kathy! He is also a gifted artist! Well, my dear, i think there really isn’t anything better in the world than being a grandma! You will never regret this decision and enjoy every minute of it!! I know I love being a grandma and am only an hour away from my sweetie, who is already 5!! I will still look forward to seeing you on Wednesdays. ❤️

Dear Kathy–I know this decision of yours took much thought and pulled at your heartstrings! Family comes first, and since God has blessed you with the ability to “multi-task” caring for a grandchild and still get your craft on (as you would say!), it’s a win-win for everyone involved…including us, your ardent followers! My youngest grandchild is 16, and how I long for those days when they were their little cuddly selves! Enjoy, Kathy!

I totally understand about those babies, enjoy your time with them. My youngest will be three in April and it seems like only yesterday we brought her home.
Glad you will still do your Wednesday and card kits, no sure if you are still doing BF live on FB , I’m no longer on FB and I missed the last live, which there was a way to get the last tutorial. Nice card for your son, Happy Birthday to him

Oh, how happy and sad I am to hear your news. Sad that you are cutting back but ecstatic that you have chosen the time to spend helping with the new grandson. I/we too, stepped in during covid when our daughter had her first baby and had to continue working and we spend a good time of his first 2 years looking after him and he will always be very very special to me. I have suddenly been challenged with medical issues and this card especially hit home for me …”There’s only one thing more precious than our time and that’s who you spend it on.” I have been following your creations for a while now and you have inspired me to make many many cards and folios and this last week it has been my escape from reality to stop thinking the worst. You are a stranger to me, but you are not and I feel able to tell you how you uplifted me this morning with this card when I am not able to share my position with those closest to me. Thank you for all the Ooo’s and Ahhhs you have given me with your creativity although my bank balance would beg to differ!!!
God Bless and all the best with your new role of loving Grandma caretaker. Enjoy the time with him.
