Autumn Sunflowers for the Really Reasonable Ribbon August 2023 Blog Hop

Hello, Friends!  These Autumn Sunflowers are my inspiration piece for the Really Reasonable Ribbon August 2023 Blog Hop.  You should be coming here full of crafty inspiration after visiting Gloria’s lovely blog.  Our theme this month is Autumn Ribbon...one of my all time favorites!

Turquoise is such a great color for fall projects.  So I dug into my stash of RRR ribbons and trims looking for this Mallard Shimmer Satin.

This color not only coordinates well with the designer papers, but it really makes my handmade sunflowers pop off the page.

Create a quick, easy and stylish ribbon border by layering Autumn Leaves Satin Ribbon over the Mallard Shimmer Satin Ribbon.  I use Scor-Tape to hold everything neatly in place.

Tiny Teal Baker’s Twine Bows dress up a wooden button and the layered sticker charm at the top of the page.

A Peek Inside

Narrow ribbon like the 3/8″ Autumn Leaves Satin makes a great border on the pocket inside this card.

TIP: Create a fun shaped pocket by adding adhesive only to the lower edge of an ephemera bit.  Then you can tuck in a little blank sentiment card.  Photos can be added to the flap feature on the left.

A small tag makes a much bigger impact when you top it with more ribbon and Baker’s Twine bow.  Ribbon really is a magical element !

Autumn weather calls for a warming cup of chai, so I tucked a chai tea bag into the gift card wallet, and dressed up a honey stick for the pocket.  What a great gift!

Apple Season Shaker Card

Apple Season Shaker Card with Really Reasonable Ribbon and Simple Stories Country Harvest

Hello, Friends!  An Apple Season Shaker Card reminds us that Fall is right around the corner.  It’s my favorite season of the year, so I had a wonderful time making this card featuring Really Reasonable Ribbon Brown and Cream Plaid. Putting this mixed media card together with Simple Stories Country Harvest papers was sheer joy!  It brought back so many warm memories from my childhood.

My family used to go apple picking every September, and if I close my eyes, I can transport myself right back to the glorious old orchard where we did our picking.  The sun warmed the juices of the apples that had dropped on the ground, and the aroma of fermented apple juice filled the air.  The trees were so laden with plump, ripe apples that the branches bowed low to the ground.  You had to watch out for wasps, though, because they loved apple picking season just as much as we did, and they were zealous protectors of the harvest. Yikes!

Apple Season Card Shaker Frame

Transform a chipboard frame from the paper collection as follows:

  • First, apply Gathered Twigs Distress Ink directly to the outside of the frame.
  • Next, apply Crackle Texture randomly around the edges of the frame through Bibi Cameron’s Stencil .  As the crackle texture dries, the ink will seep through and add color to the paste.
  • Now cut a 4 5/8″ square of acetate and adhere to the back of the frame with 1/4″ Scor-Tape. Trim any acetate that happens to over hang the frame.
  • Then, apply 1/4″ foam tape to the back of the frame.  I like to use 3 layers.
  • Next, fill the frame with buttons and sequins.
  • Now mat the 4×4 apple image from the paper collection on a 4 1/2″ square of kraft cardstock and adhere face down over the foam tape.  Trim away any excess that shows beyond the edges of the shaker frame.

Add a cute tag to the side of the card, and top it with Brown Sugar Baker’s Twine. Tuck more twine bows into your floral clusters and add the gingham bow and Reneabouquets butterfly as the perfect finishing touches.

A Peek Inside

Add a pocket and a tuck spot inside the card to finish it off with style.

Create a tea/gift card wallet with scraps of designer paper, and dress up a honey stick with a little banner flag.

Cards like this make such great gifts, and are even pretty enough to set out as part of your fall home decor.
