2 in 20 Birthday Shaker Cards Tutorial with Paper Rose Heart & Home Collection
Hello, Friends! It’s Wonderful Wednesday, and I have a fun 2 in 20 Birthday Shaker Cards Tutorial to share with you! We’re working with scraps from last week’s Paper Rose Heart & Home Recipe Album Tutorial.
Full disclosure: I created this project and post on July 5th, one day before my scheduled knee surgery. I’ve been working ahead all month so that even though I’m recovering now, you won’t miss out on any creative inspiration.
Since my time was short, I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to make two cards in twenty minutes. So I created the card bases, shaker elements and cut all the card panels before I started filming. Did we make the time limit? You’ll have to watch the video tutorial to find out!
Vertical Happy Birthday Shaker Card
Some of the panels left from the mini album had awkward cuts; the focal image was not centered, or cut off…that sort of thing. So I devised a way to still use the pretty border elements and cover up the awkward bits.
This top fold card has a cute pocket and ample writing space inside. I tucked in a little bookmark and tea wallet to complete the card.
Horizontal Birthday Shaker Card
The base for this card is the same size, just oriented so that the fold is on the left. This allowed me to feature the parts of the focal image that appealed most to me, while still using the pretty floral border. A carefully placed doily and shaker element complete the design.
TIP: Use border scraps to decorate writing panels and to fill in gaps! I really like the mirror image effect that these borders provide.

I hope to be back to “live” project shares the first week in August, depending on my progress. I have no idea what to expect with this healing journey.
Thanks so much for all your kind and encouraging words! Now go get your craft on!
Cheerio,

Shaker cards really are a super way to add texture and movement. These two are lovely Kathy, and I am thinking by now you are moving along pretty well and may have ventured into your studio for a little while. We are very near the end of our project and have a fully functioning kitchen again. After a few small jobs the rest will be completed and instead of cleaning every day there will be more time for creativity. Your videos have kept the motivation going and this morning there will be time for art. Thanks for being thoughtful and diligent providing ongoing inspiration during this very tough year!
Hoping all is going well as you progress with rehab and healing. Thank you for your diligence and commitment to your crafting followers. You are a gifted teacher, enjoy checking email on Wednesdays to see what is in store for us. Take care of yourself, and push on !!
Thank you for the tutorial for these pretty cards and thank you for your thoughtfulness to have the videos made ahead of time with everything you have going on. I hope your recovery is going well for you.
