Paper Rose Heart & Home Sweet Tea Card Tutorial for Wonderful Wednesday

Hello, Friends!  What if I told you that this Sweet Tea Card Tutorial will take less than 10 minutes to watch?  That’s how simple this elegant card takes to make.  Of course, figuring out the design for the card, took me quite a bit longer than that!

This is our last week with this lovely paper collection before we move into the month of August.  Since I made this card the day before my knee replacement surgery, I knew it had to be quick and easy.  So I turned to my pile of scraps and went to work.

Use Your Scraps

Every single panel on this card is a scrap from another project.  I love when that happens! Even the card base is made from scraps of kraft cardstock.

Here’s how:

  • First, cut 2 panels of kraft cardstock to 5″ x 8 1/2″.
  • Next join the two panels together on the 5″ side with 1/2″ Scor-Tape.
  • Now place the long side on your scoring tool and score at 7″ and 7 1/2″.
  • Fold on the 7 1/2″ line, and score again at 7″.
  • Then fold that short flap up to serve as a pocket inside the card.  Add gussets to the sides, and you just made a card base using paper scraps!

See?  I told you it was easy!

Time Saver Tip:  Cut all your scrap panels first, then glue everything together.  I even build my floral cluster off the card base.  This allows me to move the elements around until they are just the way I want them to be.  Then I glue them together and set them aside until I’m ready to add them to the card.

Now I have to go pack my overnight bag and get ready for my hospital adventure.  By the time you read this post I will have been home for 2 1/2″ weeks, and hopefully, I’m ready to get my craft on again!

2 in 20 Birthday Shaker Cards Tutorial with Paper Rose Heart & Home Collection

Hello, Friends!  It’s Wonderful Wednesday, and I have a fun 2 in 20 Birthday Shaker Cards Tutorial to share with you!  We’re working with scraps from last week’s Paper Rose Heart & Home Recipe Album Tutorial.

Full disclosure:  I created this project and post on July 5th, one day before my scheduled knee surgery.  I’ve been working ahead all month so that even though I’m recovering now, you won’t miss out on any creative inspiration.

Since my time was short, I thought it would be fun to challenge myself to make two cards in twenty minutes.  So I created the card bases, shaker elements and cut all the card panels before I started filming.  Did we make the time limit?  You’ll have to watch the video tutorial to find out!

Vertical  Happy Birthday Shaker Card

Some of the panels left from the mini album had awkward cuts; the focal image was not centered, or cut off…that sort of thing.  So I devised a way to still use the pretty border elements and cover up the awkward bits.

This top fold card has a cute pocket and ample writing space inside.  I tucked in a little bookmark and tea wallet to complete the card.

Horizontal Birthday Shaker Card

The base for this card is the same size, just oriented so that the fold is on the left.  This allowed me to feature the parts of the focal image that appealed most to me, while still using the pretty floral border. A carefully placed doily and shaker element complete the design.

TIP:  Use border scraps to decorate writing panels and to fill in gaps!  I really like the mirror image effect that these borders provide.

Hello, Friends!  It’s Wonderful Wednesday, and I have a quick and easy Paper Rose Heart and Home Recipe Album Tutorial to share with you.

Recipe Album Tutorial-Paper Rose-Heart and Home-Kathy Clement-Kathy by Design

If you’ve always wanted to organize your favorite recipes or compile them as a gift for a family member, this project is the one you’ve been waiting for.  Beautiful papers, a pre-made album base and super simple page designs will help you whip up this album in a jiffy!  Some of the pages can actually be completed in under five minutes!

This means you can create the album as a Christmas gift with time to spare!  And what new bride wouldn’t love to receive a book filled your favorite “tried and true” recipes?  I made a recipe album for each of our 5 children as they moved from the home “nest” into their adult lives.  Now it’s time for me to start making them for the grandchildren!

Pocket Pages and “Made from Scratch” Kraft Pages

Our album base is a Simple Stories Simple Snap Kraft Binder. The album cover measures 8 1/2″ x 8 3/4″, but the inner pages are 6″ x 8 1/2″.  Plastic pocket pages come with the album, but I also wanted some cardstock pages.  So I figured out how to create sturdy kraft pages, side pocket pages, slash pocket pages and even cute little recipe card pockets.  You will learn how to make all of those in the video tutorial today.

Believe it or not, I still have a lovely stash of these papers even after making this album!  So I’ll be sharing another Heart and Home card tutorial with you the next two weeks.  This collection is so versatile, it will be fun to show it in different themes.

I’m also actively working on putting together our very first Button Farm Club Quarterly Folio Kit.  This will be a really fun addition to the Quarterly Card Kit that I’ve been making for years now.  Many of you requested a folio kit, and it’s actually going to happen!

The first Quarterly Folio Kit will release in October with a Christmas theme.  The goal is to create a kit that will be quick to make and easy on the piggy bank, too.  I think you’re going to love it!

We’ve delayed the release of the June Card Kit until August so that we can feature a really scrumptious Christmas collection for your holiday cards.  It will be worth the wait!

Paper Rose Heart & Home Tag Mini Album Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  Today I have the cutest Paper Rose Heart & Home Tag Mini Album Tutorial to share with you.  It’s easy to make, fun to embellish, and makes a great gift!

Graphic 45 Large Kraft Tags form the album base and pages.  Regular Kraft Tags serve as flip pages on the inside.  The binding system is so easy that I just know you’re going to want to make a pile of these little albums!  You can the Heart & Home Collection or whatever theme and paper collection you like best.

Kitschy Kitchen Fun

I have a veritable treasure trove of kitschy kitchen charms in my stash.  Putting them into service for this dangle spine treatment made me very happy.

TIP:  Drill (or have your hubby drill, as I did) small holes in the handles of Tim Holtz Mini Cutlery.  Then thread them onto some jump rings for a cute, quick dangle charm.  Punch a hole in the top of your spine with a Crop-a-Dile tool, then add a large eyelet.  Slip a binding ring through the eyelet, thread on your jump ring charms and tie on a bit of linen ribbon.

Lots of Room for Photos

Here’s a peek inside the album along with simple tips for assembly.  (You can find the basic measurements and instructions in the description box below the video on my YouTube channel.)

  • First, use G45 Staples Tag Dies to cut covers for your large and regular tags.
  • Next, create envelopes for the front and back inside covers.  These will hold 3×5 index cards or recipe cards.  I designed my recipe cards on my computer.
  • Alternate regular tags between each large tag.  I’ll show you how to make these easy flip pages in the video tutorial.

Paper Rose Heart & Home Shaker Card Folio Tutorial for Wonderful Wednesday

Hello, Friends!  Don’t you want to just cozy up inside this Paper Rose Heart & Home Shaker Card Folio?  Today’s Wonderful Wednesday tutorial is filled with lots of easy techniques and ideas that will help you create a card so beautiful, you might want to live in it!

My “go to” card size is 5″ x 7″ (A7).  I also prefer a top fold style card because they are so pretty when on display (and they photograph better, too!). But how do you make an A7 card base with 8 1/2″ x 11″ paper?  If you haven’t seen me do this in the past, you’ll learn just how quick and easy it is in today’s tutorial.

Most of the elements in today’s project are made using the Heart & Home Quick Cards Kit.  With a lovely selection of 6″ x 8″ patterned papers and 4 sheets of embossed die cuts, it has a lot to offer.

Shaker Cards are the Best

Arch shaped dies are all the rage right now.  So I used one of the Heartfelt Creations Eyelet Frame Gateway Dies to create my shaker window.  This creates that “I could walk into this card” feeling because of the depth and dimension it adds to the card design.  You can use any arch die, or any of the Heartfelt Creations Gateway dies to create this effect.

Surprise Pop Out Box

Y’all know that I enjoy creating the insides of my cards as much as I enjoy embellishing the outsides.  Add a simple flap feature inside the card along with an easy to make pop out box.  This surprise element adds fun and elevates the design, too.
