Stamperia Spring Botanic Gift Box Card Tutorial for Throwback Thursday & A Personal Update

Hello, Friends!  For this week’s Throwback Thursday Tutorial, I have a gorgeous Stamperia Spring Botanic Gift Box Card to share with you.  This paper collection captured my imagination when it arrived on the scene in 2019.  I’ve made several projects with it over the years, and felt it was time to pull it out into the light of day again.  It’s just as beautiful as I remember the last time I worked with it.  This project was completed last week, but the video had not been edited yet.  Thankfully, I got that done before Friday afternoon…because life took an unexpected turn.  Read on if you are curious!

Important Personal Update

First of all, everything here is going to be just fine.  So please know that!  But last Friday, my husband Dale had a heart attack.  We are so thankful that we got to the emergency room quickly.  The doctors saw him immediately and began therapeutic treatment almost instantly.  Long story short, they did a procedure on Monday morning to open up a blocked artery and restore blood flow to the heart.  There is another completely blocked artery from the open heart surgery he had in 2013.  But the “fix” is risky, and they decided that since he seems to be doing well after the first procedure, they will leave things alone.  Of course, if his condition changes, we will have to change with it.

So right now, instead of playing in the studio, I am playing nurse.  We are getting used to new medications, new routines and getting Dale on the road to recovery.  I have a few projects already written up and scheduled.  But the reality is, you probably won’t be hearing as much from me for the next few weeks.  And, I may not be able to keep up with comments like I usually do.

We feel really positive that the future is full of promise and fulfillment for us.  We are beyond thankful for the love and support of our family and friends.  I don’t usually share personal things here, but I feel a bond with each of you, and did not want to keep you in the dark.

Now, on with Throwback Thursday!

Beautiful Spring Botanicals

I think y’all are really going to have fun with this gift box design.  It’s perfect for gift-giving.  Mother’s Day. Graduation and Father’s Day are right around the corner.  So you can adapt this basic design for any occasion.

You’ll learn how to make this  cutaway front cover and magnetic closure in the video tutorial.  It’s pretty slick.

The Details

Transform a simple paper clip into a stylish embellishment with ribbon, flowers and twine.  This clip does double duty on the inside of the card folio as it holds the pages of a waterfall feature in place.

Pale pink roses echo the image on the folio cover.  And I love this mini check coral rose ribbon!

A Peek Inside

How much do we love this soft, neutral color palette?  It just makes me feel calm and at rest.

Here’s what the folio looks like when opened all the way up.  The center panel is a box pocket filled with a little sticky note pad.  The bottom panel is a waterfall feature.

Learn how to make the sticky note pad in the video tutorial.  Ad how much do we love this little snail?  I know they are destructive in real life…but on paper they are mighty cute!

Rest the sticky note inside another box pocket. This way you can keep adding new pads as you use them up.

The Waterfall Feature

To make the pages of the waterfall, score 1 1/2″ on the left hand side of each 5 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ cut apart image.  Then adhere the flap as you would with any waterfall.  You can also see that I added flowers to both sides of the paper clip so that it’s pretty no matter which way it is turned.

Add photos, quotes or journaling to the pages of the waterfall folio.

The final page is a little tag/pocket combo.

Crafty Crush: Eileen Hull Notebook Die

Crafty Crush: Eileen Hull Notebook Die for Frilly and Funkie

Hello, Friends!  Have you had a chance to play with the new Eileen Hull Notebook Die?  I have a serious crafty crush on it.  I’ll tell you all about it in a moment, but first let me welcome you to the “I Love It Because…” challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Challenge Blog.  Our lovely hostess, the marvelous Jenny Marples, has this to say about the theme:

I love it because…
How often do you create something just for you that makes your heart sing? Doesn’t it feel great when you do! My challenge to you is to make a vintage or shabby chic piece of art, be it a journal page, a tag, a card, a home decor project etc, that fills you with happiness and makes you smile – don’t forget to tell us why you love it so much.

If you are not familiar with the new Eileen Hull Notebook Die by Sizzix, let me be the first to introduce you.  This genius little die cuts a 3 1/2″ x 5″ notebook from mat board, fabric, leather, or chipboard with one pass through your die cutting machine.

At the same time as it cuts the chosen material, it also creases an area that becomes the spine.  This is book binding at it’s easiest and most basic.  So if you’ve ever wanted to make your own little books, this is a great way to get started.

Eileen Hull Notebook Die: I Love it Because
  • Ease of Use
  • Size: It fits inside her cleverly designed Treasure Box
  • Versatility: You can design this album in any number of ways.  You can find more examples of how I’ve used this clever die HERE and HERE.
  • Quick to make: I can knock out one of these lovely little notebooks in a couple of hours.  Then I have the perfect little gift to present, and people are always thrilled to receive it.

How could you not love this gorgeous paper?  The colors are my favorites, and the images are just dreamy.  And look at that wee snail?  I love him!

Stamperia builds their collections so that the mixed media effects I love so much are incorporated into the design.  I can add stenciling and texture on top of that if I desire to do so.  Or, I can simply cut apart the bits and pieces, dress them up with a little ribbon and a charm and be all set.

For this little album, I printed out a selection of my favorite Spring poems and quotes.  I wanted a little lap book that could be perused at leisure, or used for home decor.

Stamperia Spring Botanic Eileen Hull Treasure Box and Notebook Tutorial

Stamperia Spring Botanic Eileen Hull Treasure Box and Notebook Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s time for another great challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Blog.  I’ve created a shabby chic Eileen Hull Treasure Box and Notebook Insert Tutorial using Stamperia Spring Botanic papers for my inspiration piece.  But before we take a look at that, let’s see what the magnificent Maggi Harding, our challenge hostess, has to say about this challenge.

Challenge Theme: Spring is in full bloom!
This is my favorite time of the year. Here in the south the trees and shrubs are all blooming and showing their splendor. Many are busy planting their vegetable gardens. The migrating birds have returned to build nests and raise a new family. Your challenge is to create a vintage or shabby chic project that illustrates the magic of spring in bloom!

You all know how much I love creating little lap books filled with pretty papers, interactive elements and sweet embellishments.  It’s truly one of the most satisfying ways I know to spend time in my studio.  But, when you can create a sweet little box to house that little lap book…well, then I’m pretty much in heaven.  When Eileen Hull released her new Treasure Box and Notebook Dies, I was instantly hooked!

I mean…really, people!  That darling little notebook tucks right inside the Treasure Box.   The Treasure Box measures about 5 1/2″ x 3 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ when finished.  And the wee notebook is just as darling at 3 5/8″ x 5″.   Cut the pieces from mat board and you’ll be thrilled when you see that all the fold lines are pre-creased for easy assembly.  This frees you up for what I call “the fun stuff.”  You are ready to decorate and embellish in minutes.

I can think of about a dozen different ways to use this box/notebook combo.  But altering them with these stunning Stamperia Spring Botanic papers was first on my list.  Since I know many of you will want to give this project a whirl, I’ve prepared a tutorial for you to follow.  Because of that, I won’t be sharing a ton of details in my blog post.  They are all in the video for you to enjoy.

Seth Apter Baked Velvet Embossing Powders

As someone who loves to embellish with metals, I’m always thrilled when a product comes along to make my job easier.  All the metals and chipboard used in this project have been altered with Seth Apter’s Mediterranean Baked Velvet Embossing powders.  There are several different ways you can apply these:

  • Press the item into a VersaMark Embossing Ink Pad.  Then sprinkle with the desired powder and heat emboss.
  • Paint the item with Distress Paint, then sprinkle with Baked Velvet while the paint is still wet.  Heat emboss.
  • Cover an item with liquid adhesive and then sprinkle on the Baked Velvet…but this time don’t heat emboss.  You’ll add a lovely soft, almost suede, texture to the item.
  • Mix and match powders to create a custom color.
  • Layer colors as  did in this project…and you’ll learn all about that in the tutorial below.
Spring Botanic Notebook: A Peek Inside

This Spring Botanic Notebook is not a mini album in the sense that it is not designed to hold photos.  My inspiration was to create a sort of lap book, or look book filled with gorgeous images.  Beautiful spring poetry and artful spring quotes are sprinkled through the pages.  I’ve used Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs, Ephemera bits, Paper Dolls and Clippings to enhance the theme.

Here’s a quick peek at some of what you’ll find inside this darling mini album.
