Stamperia Spring Botanic Eileen Hull Treasure Box and Notebook Tutorial

Stamperia Spring Botanic Eileen Hull Treasure Box and Notebook Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s time for another great challenge over on the Frilly and Funkie Blog.  I’ve created a shabby chic Eileen Hull Treasure Box and Notebook Insert Tutorial using Stamperia Spring Botanic papers for my inspiration piece.  But before we take a look at that, let’s see what the magnificent Maggi Harding, our challenge hostess, has to say about this challenge.

Challenge Theme: Spring is in full bloom!
This is my favorite time of the year. Here in the south the trees and shrubs are all blooming and showing their splendor. Many are busy planting their vegetable gardens. The migrating birds have returned to build nests and raise a new family. Your challenge is to create a vintage or shabby chic project that illustrates the magic of spring in bloom!

You all know how much I love creating little lap books filled with pretty papers, interactive elements and sweet embellishments.  It’s truly one of the most satisfying ways I know to spend time in my studio.  But, when you can create a sweet little box to house that little lap book…well, then I’m pretty much in heaven.  When Eileen Hull released her new Treasure Box and Notebook Dies, I was instantly hooked!

I mean…really, people!  That darling little notebook tucks right inside the Treasure Box.   The Treasure Box measures about 5 1/2″ x 3 1/4″ x 4 1/8″ when finished.  And the wee notebook is just as darling at 3 5/8″ x 5″.   Cut the pieces from mat board and you’ll be thrilled when you see that all the fold lines are pre-creased for easy assembly.  This frees you up for what I call “the fun stuff.”  You are ready to decorate and embellish in minutes.

I can think of about a dozen different ways to use this box/notebook combo.  But altering them with these stunning Stamperia Spring Botanic papers was first on my list.  Since I know many of you will want to give this project a whirl, I’ve prepared a tutorial for you to follow.  Because of that, I won’t be sharing a ton of details in my blog post.  They are all in the video for you to enjoy.

Seth Apter Baked Velvet Embossing Powders

As someone who loves to embellish with metals, I’m always thrilled when a product comes along to make my job easier.  All the metals and chipboard used in this project have been altered with Seth Apter’s Mediterranean Baked Velvet Embossing powders.  There are several different ways you can apply these:

  • Press the item into a VersaMark Embossing Ink Pad.  Then sprinkle with the desired powder and heat emboss.
  • Paint the item with Distress Paint, then sprinkle with Baked Velvet while the paint is still wet.  Heat emboss.
  • Cover an item with liquid adhesive and then sprinkle on the Baked Velvet…but this time don’t heat emboss.  You’ll add a lovely soft, almost suede, texture to the item.
  • Mix and match powders to create a custom color.
  • Layer colors as  did in this project…and you’ll learn all about that in the tutorial below.
Spring Botanic Notebook: A Peek Inside

This Spring Botanic Notebook is not a mini album in the sense that it is not designed to hold photos.  My inspiration was to create a sort of lap book, or look book filled with gorgeous images.  Beautiful spring poetry and artful spring quotes are sprinkled through the pages.  I’ve used Tim Holtz Remnant Rubs, Ephemera bits, Paper Dolls and Clippings to enhance the theme.

Here’s a quick peek at some of what you’ll find inside this darling mini album.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album

Tammy Tutterow Designs Creative Team: Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album

Hello, Friends!  Fall is a great season to practice the habit of gratitude.  Today I have a really sweet Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album made with Tammy Tutterow Dies that will help you get your gratitude on!

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 1

The inspiration for this Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album came from Tammy’s Paper Bag Envelope Die.  I paired this up with her Posie Parts Die, Waterfall One, and Tab Set Two Dies.  The papers from Simple Stories are a guilty pleasure.  I spotted them online and knew I had to have them!

This “from scratch” album measures 5.75″ x 3.5″ with a 3″ spine.  I want to live in this pink gingham house, don’t you?  So sweet!  The chipboard house is wreathed with handmade felt posies.  These are such fun to make! I especially enjoy digging through my button jar to find the centers.

This 3″ spine makes for a chunky little album…which I personally love.  I’ve decorated with Champagne Silky Crush Ribbon, Crochet Lace, a handmade button charm, Posie Parts Leaves and a die cut label.  The chunky spine allows you to create dimensional pages inside, which is always fun!

Waterfall features like the one on the inside cover of my book are a snap to make using Tammy’s Waterfall One Die. Each page is cut from designer paper.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 4The cover is decorated with  Tammy’s Pointed Mini Envelope Die.  Just die cut the envelope from designer paper, then fold the flaps, glue in place and you have a darling designer envelope.  This one is paper clipped to the front cover of the waterfall album and flanked with another Posie Part felt flower.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album Pocket Pages

Before I began putting this album together, I first die cut 4 sets of Paper Bag Envelopes from medium weight cream cardstock.

Assembling the paper bag envelopes is as easy as 1, 2, 3.  Just fold, and glue together with the adhesive of your choice.

Once the paper bag envelopes were put together, I used Tammy’s Stencil Girl Stencils  and Distress Ink to add color, pattern and interest to the plain cream envelopes.  This first pocket page pairs the Cross Stitch 2 Step Stencil with Tattered Rose and Worn Lipstick Distress Inks.  I do not consider myself to be adept with stencils, but this was really quick and easy to do.

Next, I die cut some tabs from designer paper to serve as pull-outs for the envelope inserts.  You can write down thankful thoughts, add photos, tuck little mementoes into the pockets…anything you feel thankful for!

Grateful for Tammy’s Stencils!

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 9I love the fact that I can create “custom” patterns to match my designer papers and the theme of any project.  Here, I’ve used Fossilized Amber and Wild Honey with the Polka Heart Stencil.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 10This page made with the Petite Posies stencil and Wild Honey/Spiced Marmalade Distress Ink is probably my favorite.  The colors match the little chipboard house perfecty!

Grateful Paper Bag Mini Album: The Photo Mounts

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 15The inside back cover has a pocket full of photo mounts.  I used the Paper Bag Pocket insert die to make these in a jiffy.

Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album by Kathy Clement Product by Tammy Tutterow Designs Photo 16Bound together with a decorative belly band, you can add eight 3.75″ x 2.75″ photos here.

This Grateful Paper Bag Envelope Mini Album is such a fun way to remember to be thankful.  You could make this into a weekly activity with your kids or grandkids, adding photos, quotes and journaling notes to each little pocket.  I always say that thankful people are the happiest people.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Sew Much Love Folio Video Tour

Getting Ready for Mother’s Day with Petaloo : Sew Much Love Folio Video Tour with Tips

Hello, Friends!  My head is absolutely refusing to believe that it’s already May!  And you know what that means: Mother’s Day is right around the corner.  I’m getting ready for the “big day” with a little help from Petaloo and Kaisercraft.  I think you’re going to enjoy my Sew Much Love Folio Video Tour.  It’s loaded with vintage goodness!

Making these little folios is completely addictive.  For this 5″ x 7″ folio, I adapted a tutorial that you can find HERE.  It’s the same basic design, but this time I added in a side pocket page.

Friendship is Sewn with Love and Stitched with Kindness: the story behind the project

(Yes…this is a personal story.  Feel free to skip ahead and look at the pretty pictures!)

Since both my precious mom and my mother in law are now residing in Heaven, I use Mother’s Day as a way to reach out to other special women in my life.  This year, I made this vintage style sewing themed folio for a dear friend from high school.

Karen and I shared a lot of common interests despite the fact that she was on the math/science track and I was on the writing/Language/Literature trail.   We were in marching band together, worked on the school newspaper and were co-editors of our high school yearbook.  Karen was precise, logical and methodical.  I was free-spirited, fueled by inspiration and spontaneous. Somehow, that combination worked!

We remained friends after graduation, but then lost track of one another  after marriage.  But thanks to the magic of Facebook, I was able to find her a couple years ago, and our reunion was as sweet and refreshing as our friendship had always been.

About a week ago, I received a surprise package in the mail.  Karen, who is a master quilter (check out her blog HERE and you will see what I am talking about!) made me a quilt!  She remembered how much I love the lilacs back in Vermont during the springtime, so she titled it “Lilacs in the Spring.”  I confess…I got all choked up when I saw this gorgeous quilt.  And that is why Karen is my Mother’s Day gift recipient this year.

It’s hard to capture this very interactive folio with still photos, so I’ve created a short YouTube video tour for you.   I also share some fun tips that you can use in your own crafting adventures.

A Few Details

Sew Much Love Folio Mademoiselle by Kathy Clement Product by Petaloo and Kaisercraft Photo 4

Pockets are fun way to add an interactive element to any project.  For the front of this cover, I created a dimensional pocket and then filled it with a pretty tag and a hand stamped vintage style button card.   (I’ll share links to all the products below.)

Add ribbon, small charms and buttons to the spine for even more fun.

Velvet pansies add wonderful texture to the pages.

Folios and photo mounts are held together with a decorative belly band.

A slit pocket inside a larger pocket is a great place to tuck small tickets and tags.

I tucked little vintage treasures everywhere throughout the folio.

And the Mademoiselle papers from Kaisercraft carry the sewing theme beautifully!

I added a simple waterfall feature for photos.

And managed to sneak in one more little pocket filled with a vintage button card.

Smaller pockets are decorated and filled with tags.

A handmade gift is the very best way I know of to say I love you. So get out your scissors, glue, pretty papers and beautiful Petaloo posies and make something special for mom.

Eileen Hull generously donated two sets of the die cut journal components to each member of the Frilly and Funkie team.  The pieces are cut from smooth mat board and are a dream to work with!  If you are familiar with  traditional Midori style travel journals, then you know the covers measure 8.75″ x 4.5″.  Haven’t heard about Midori style journals?  Then you are in for a treat! Search Midori style journals on Pinterest or Google.  But prepare a snack and a beverage, as you will be engaged for a good long time!

My Choose Joy HeARTfelt journal is done in a Junk Journal style.  I’ve mixed and matched all kinds of wonderful products in the three sections.  Since a picture is worth a thousand words, I’ve prepared a YouTube video tour that will do all the talking for me.  I hope you enjoy!
