Grateful Hearts Pumpkin Shaker Card Tutorial for Throwback Thursday
Hello, Friends! It’s Throwback Thursday, and I have a lovely Grateful Hearts Pumpkin Shaker Card Tutorial to share with you today. But first, a confession: I might have bent the Throwback Thursday rules just a little! You see, I have been wanting to play with my Prima Hello, Pink Autumn papers for weeks now. I have been imagining this card for quite some time, but have not had the time to make it. Until this week…but Throwback Thursday is supposed to use OLD collections. And this is a new fall release. Uh-oh!
I would say I am sorry I broke the rules, but I’m really not. Because this card was so rewarding to make, and I love the way it turned out. This tutorial is my very first attempt at making a card with an acetate cover. It was not nearly as difficult as I imagined, and I even managed to line up the acetate overlay with the patterned paper inside the card. Yay, me!
The Pumpkin Shaker Element
Look how cute this pumpkin shaker element turned out! This is a layered pumpkin from Reneabouquets. Here’s how to put yours together:
- First, trace around the bottom layer of the pumpkin onto the patterned paper of your choice. Then trim out the pumpkin shape, ink the edges and adhere to the chipboard pumpkin.
- Now heat emboss the top layer of the pumpkin. First I inked the surface with a little Gathered Twigs Distress Ink because I wanted to make sure that the embossing powder had a dark base, rather than a light one. This does seem to make a difference with the final hues of the powder.
- Next, tap the inked surface with VersaMark and heat emboss with Ranger Rose Gold Embossing Powder. Let this cool. Then randomly tap with VersaMark and sprinkle with Emerald Creek Burnt Copper Leaves Embossing powder. This powder has to be heated until the copper fragments begin to melt and move around. Be patient!
- Then trace the top onto clear acetate. Trim out and adhere to the back of the shape. Add 2 layers of 1/8″ foam strips.
- Now place your sequin mix on the plaid paper and carefully line the top of the pumpkin up over the bottom. Press in place to seal.
- Next, wrap copper wire around a thin paintbrush handle and attach to the top of the pumpkin. Tie a bow and add fall flowers from Reneabouquet’s shop.
To balance out the card design, I added flowers around the base of the pumpkin and the printed Beautiful Board swag at the bottom. You will see all of this done in the tutorial.
A Peek Inside
There actually is not an inside design on this card because of the acetate cover. So I created a little gift pocket on the back of the card.
A little tea, a little notecard…..
….and a little vintage silver plate demitasse spoon to stir in the honey stick.

Oh MY This Is STUNNING!! I love how you pulled the purples out of the Autumn Beauty Piece with the shaker yummies!! You rock Fall and capture the heart~
AMAZING! No worries about “bending” or not following the rules for if we never colored outside the box, art wouldn’t be as beautiful and much undiscovered. I was transfixed by this creation as you created such a superb imaginative and blissfully fantastic spectacle for us to devour with our eyes. Your mixing and matching of colors and patterns is engrossingly eloquent! Loved the artistic three dimensional effects created and the perfect balance of beautiful colors and eye catching graphics. And, as usual, your video is a friendly chat among friends jam packed with instructions and tips (like a cozy fireside chat). YEAH for THROWBACK THURSDAYS!
Nice card, jam packed with shaker stuff. Love the colour choice Kathy. Enjoy your Thursday!
Hugs from the rainy west coast.
What a darling card, Kathy! I’m glad you broke the Throwback Thursday rules. This card is so wonderfully different and the pumpkin shaker window is fantastic! The flowers are just lovely and the inside is gorgeous! Now I want some hot cocoa. Going to watch the video now. Thank you for sharing! Hugs!
I adore this card, and as usual all the thoughtful little flourishes you add to make it even more special. It’s positively whimsical, and now I need hot chocolate with a heart shaped marshmallow please!
