Heartfelt Easter Dogwoods Greeting Card for the Alumni Hop
Hello, Friends! Welcome to the Heartfelt Creations March 2018 Alumni Hop! Dogwoods have always been my favorite spring blossom. When we lived in Atlanta, there was a street in a small town called Clarkston that was lined on both sides with snowy white dogwood trees. When those delicate trees blossomed at Easter, it was like going to a wedding. I think of that street every year around this time. This Easter Dogwoods Greeting Card is inspired by that memory.
This 5″ x 7″ top fold card has a 1/2″ spine. To make it, you will need the following:
- Heartfelt Creations Flowering Dogwood Paper Collection
- Flowering Dogwood Cling Stamp Set and matching Flowering Dogwood Die
- Sweetheart Borders Die
- Decorative Oval Die
- Luggage and Tags Die
- Spellbinder’s Large Standard Circle Die
- Distress Inks: Picked Raspberry, Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, Peeled Paint
- Ranger Sap Green Archival Ink
- “WOW” Neutral Ultra Shimmer Embossing Glitter
- Rajni Chalwa’s Papericious Frosting Powder
- 5/8″ Celery Plaid Ribbon
- Ivory Burlap String
- Button from my stash
- Cardstock: Pearlized White, light steel grey
- Distressing Tool, Ink Blending Tool, Scoring Tool, 1/2″ Scor-Tape
Heartfelt Easter Dogwoods Greeting Card; Creating Layers
I decided I wanted a distressed, shabby chic feel for this card. Once I had built my card base, I went about creating the layers. First, I cut a 4.75″ x 6.75″ panel from the Flowering Dogwood Paper Collection. Use an ink blending tool to add Distress inks along the edges of your paper. Then spritz with water.
Next, I distressed all the edges with my Tonic Distressing Tool. If you don’t have a distressing tool, you can run the blade of your scissors lightly along the edge of your paper, and get a similar result. Stitch this panel onto a double mat of white pearl cardstock and light grey cardstock. I build my card front on this panel, and then once the card is finished, I glue it to the base.
Heartfelt Easter Dogwoods Greeting Card: Flowers and Sweetheart Border
Die cut the Sweetheart Border from Pearl White Cardstock. I also used a Large Spellbinder Circle Die to cut out the focal from one of the 6×6 card panels in the collection. Layer these elements up on your card.
Now it’s time to create those gorgeous dogwood blossoms! First, I stamped 2 sets of the large blossoms and one set of the other blossoms onto pearly white cardstock using Sap Green Archival Ink. Then I heat embossed the stamped images with WOW embossing powder.
Before you cut out the blossoms, go ahead and ink the centers and leaves with more of the Sap Green Ink using a sponge dauber. Then sponge the edges with a combination of the pink Distress inks. Spatter with a little water and some diluted brown ink to create the spatter effect.
Now you are ready to shape and assemble your blossoms. Fill the centers with Tutu Pink Prills. Hot glue them to your card front as seen in the photo. Die cut the ticket with Luggage and Tags Die. Finally, add the bow and button to finish the card front.
Heartfelt Easter Dogwoods Greeting Card: A Peek Inside
I had fun adding pockets and treats to the inside of this shabby chic card.
The top pocket is made with a card front from the collection. I filled this with a sweet little folio that is held shut with a decorative belly band. Die cut the tag and add a small 3″ x 4″ cut apart image here.
Inside, you can add photos, journaling or small keepsakes.
The larger pocket on the bottom holds this pretty tag. I created a soft, airy layer with the Decorative Oval Die. Tuck a tea bag and honey stick here as a special treat!
