Throwback Thursday Carta Bella Spring Market Card Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s time for Throwback Thursday!  This week, I dug deep into the Closet of Shame to create this Carta Bella Spring Market Card Tutorial.  If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you know that I used loads of this 2018 collection when it first came out.  You can take a peek at those fun projects HERE.   I do have a video tutorial for you today, as well as a project tour of the 3 cards I managed to make from the scraps of this happy paper collection.

Carta Bella Spring Market Cards: The Potting Bench

What do you do with the leftover bits and bobs of a favorite paper collection?  Do they end up gathering dust in the Closet of Shame?  Well, this 6″ x 6″  Potting Bench Easel card is a great way to make something beautiful with those scraps.  (If you don’t have the Spring Market Collection in your stash, I’m sure you have something that will work equally well.)

First, lay out all your collection scraps in piles, sorted by pattern and size.  I did not have a single complete piece of paper left, but I had a few large scraps, loads of smaller pieces, lots of ephemera cards and a few stickers to work with.  Easel cards are a great option when you are trying to use up scraps because the scored panels only measure 6″ x 3″.  This allows you to use up those annoying off cuts left over from previous project.

TIP: When a panel is not quite tall enough, or wide enough to cover a card base, try splitting it in half.  That’s what I did on the cover of this easel card.  I loved the little potting bench and canopy image, but it was an inch too short for my card base. So I split it in half horizontally, spliced in a scrap of the dark floral pattern and created a planter box to cover up the seam.

This trio of tags fits nicely in the planter box pocket.  And there’s room on the back of each tag to add a photo or a small note.

The video tutorial will also show you how to add a pocket and tea wallet to the inside of the card.

Live Life in Full Bloom Hybrid Fancy Fold Shaker Card

Carta Bella Spring Market Shaker Card by Kathy Clement Kathy by Design Photo 01

I’m not sure what to call this card.  It is part z-fold, part Joy Fold, part shaker card, part card folio.  This used up scraps from my plain cardstock file as well as Spring Market Scraps. I may have to revisit this fun design and share it in a future Throwback Thursday project.  What do you think about that?

This resin frame makes a great shaker element!  Simply adhere clear acetate to the back of the frame.  Then add a couple of layers of foam tape over that.  Next, pile up your shaker mix in the area where you plan to place the frame.  Finally, remove the liner tape from the foam adhesive and press in place.  I just adore a good shaker card!

Here you can see the combination of the Z-Fold Card with the Joy Fold card design.  It’s hard to understand here, but you’ll see it in the project share portion of the video.

Again, the smaller panels of the Z-Fold card design allow you to use up smaller pieces of designer paper.

You can even cover the back side of the Z-Fold card.  This is a great spot to tuck in a gift card!

Do you ever use the back side of your card?  I don’t usually do that.  But for this card, I used a bit of a border piece to make a shallow pocket for this tea wallet and demitasse spoon.

Now the card is a gift!  How cool is that?

I did make one more little folio with the scraps of this lovely collection.  But there were so many photos for this post already, I decided to just share it with you in the video tutorial below. It’s a new twist on the old Four Fold Folio, and it’s really fun.

  • Place foam tape or waste chipboard behind the sentiment panel and adhere to the card.  This simple step adds loads of dimension.
  • Now, from the sticker sheet, find “Fresh Flowers”, the pink rain boots and the “Beautiful Day” circular sentiment. Add these to the card as seen in the photo.
  • Adhere a cluster of flowers along the left hand side of the sentiment.
  • Tuck in a bow tied with Pink Plaid Ribbon.
  • Place a mini binder clip on the right hand side of the sentiment panel.  Tie a bit of pink burlap string around the post.

Create a little sentiment panel from a scrap of the pink cardstock.  Punch two holes through the left hand side.  Then run a bit of ribbon through the holes and tie a vintage silver spoon in place.

Score on the long side at 3 1/4″  and 6 1/2″.  Line with designer papers.  Add one of the cut apart images from the collection kit along with a little sticker to the front for quick and easy design.
