Let’s Make Cluster Pocket Embellishments with Simple Stories Simple Vintage Woodlands
Hello, Friends! Since it’s our Wonderful Wednesday Tag of the Month Tutorial, I thought we’d make a stack of what I’m calling Cluster Pocket Embellishments. This idea came to me very early in the morning, before I was actually fully awake. I could actually see these all made in my mind’s eye. So I was very excited to bring the idea to life!
The base is an easy to make 4 1/4″ x 3 7/8″ pocket. Top it off with a die cut doily and a sweet little tag cluster. Add a few embellishments, tuck a tag and photo mat into the pocket and you’ve got a really sweet little embellishment for a card front, junk journal, mini album or layout. If you add in a tea bag and some honey crystals, then you have a place card or party favor. I can see endless possibilities for this design, how about you?
Make a Stack!
Y’all enjoyed my “make a stack of cards” tutorial so much last month, that I thought it might be fun to create a whole stack of ready to go embellishments featuring tags.
Here’s how this project came to life:
- First, die cut a stack of 8 doilies from kraft cardstock. Spritz them lightly with copper mist, if desired.
- Next, die cut a stack of (8) 3 1/2″ circles. These plain cardstock circles glue behind the doily to lend strength and stability.
- Now, die cut (8) small (about 2 1/2″) patterned paper circles to fill in the center of the doily. Pop these up on some dimensional foam.
- Cut out 8 tags from the 6×8 pad and mat on kraft cardstock.
- Cut out (8) 4 1/8″ x 3 1/8″ panels of patterned cardstock to cover the front of your pocket.
Once you have all your stacks of paper made, gather embellishments like flowers, twine, buttons, etc. and place them in the assembly line. I even tie all my bows in advance to save time.

Lovely layering Kathy, and building the doily to add strength makes sense. I have been known to write down ideas in the middle of the night so they don’t disappear to the forgotten dreams!
These are amazing, Kathy! There are so many uses for having the premade clusters on hand. And yours are beautiful!
I have found your “Make a Stack of Cards” so very helpful. This has made me much more organized in my card making, and I can keep some readymade cards on hand. I enjoy your tutorials, you explain details so well and I love the music.
Fantastic
You are a riot, Kathy…how many people wake up musing about tags?! I love making tags, so I totally get it. Keep on dreaming up beautiful ideas!
Thank you for today’s video. The pockets are adorable and can be adapted for any occasion. The assembly line method makes it all so much easier. I will be making some for sure!
