Choose Happy Slimline Shaker Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  Today we’re going to Choose Happy with a Simple Stories Farmhouse Garden Slimline Shaker Card.  Gorgeous aqua ribbon from the Really Reasonable Ribbon June Ribbon Club are the perfect color match for this pretty botanical card.

Rows of Ribbon

If you’ve followed my blog for any length of time, you know how much I like to use ribbons as a border on a card.  Here you can see that I’ve actually created rows of ribbon on each end of this 8 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ slimline card.  On the right, Tropic Swiss Dots Satin makes the row of black buttons pop off the page.

Next, I built my own key embellishment with a large key and a bronze bee charm.  First I rubbed the key with Little Birdie Patina Wax.  Then it was the bee’s turn to get a vintage finish.  Finally, I super glued the bee t the key to create my own custom embellishment.

The flower cluster on the left is backed by a double row of ribbon.  First I attached Tropic Diamond Satin Ribbon with 1/2″ Scor-tape.  To add another layer of interest, I attached Tropic Swiss Dot Satin with 1/4″ Scor-Tape.  Next, tie a black burlap string bow to ground all those tropical hues.  Brush flowers with more of the Patina Wax and adhere on top of the bow cluster.  Finally, tap a resin keyhole with wax and tuck it into the bow arrangement.

The Shaker Window

Create the shaker window from one of the journal cards in the paper collection.

  • First, use a craft knife to cut out the white center of the journal card. This is easiest when you cut from corner to opposite corner in each direction.  Then you can get in with your scissors and neatly trim out all the white.
  • Then adhere a panel of clear cardstock (acetate) to the back of the frame.
  • Now add 3 layers of 1/8″ foam tape around the opening .
  • When your background is ready, you simply place your shaker elements on the background, then adhere the frame on top.  I built a little scene inside my window using the ephemera from the collection.  Then I added a few Reneabouquets Tiny Treasures Butterflies to the shaker mix just for fun.

Did I forget to mention that this is a tea party in a box?

No chocolate in this tea party because the weather is just too hot to send chocolate through the mail.  So I put in an extra pretty little spoon that my friend Sara Emily sent me in the mail.

I just love making these tea party in a box cards.  They make the best little gifts!

Did I share some ideas and tips that you can use in your next craft adventure?  I’d love to hear about it in the comment section below.

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Really Reasonable Ribbon June 2021 Blog Hop!  You should be coming here filled with fresh inspiration after visiting Ginny’s amazing blog.  The June Ribbon Club Assortment celebrates the trendy Southwest Vibe.  But don’t you just love how versatile the Ribbon Club assortments are?  I used the Raw Silk Delicate Stitched Satin Ribbon from the club to make this botanical bee themed card.  How cool is that?

Lots of great ribbon in this beautiful assortment!

The Sweet Life Bee Themed Botanical Card

It’s full on summer here in North Carolina, even though the calendar says it’s still springtime.  We’ve planed our garden, and big fat bumblebees are enjoying helping us pollenate the tomato plants.  This inspired me to make this 6×6 mixed media botanical card.

The colors in Simple Stories Farmhouse Garden collection are so vibrant that I decided to tame them down a bit with this Raw Silk Delicate Stitched Satin Bow.  It’s the color of spun honey, and I just love the way it creates a sense of calm in the middle of this paper garden.

Top your Raw Silk Bow with a Natural Burlap String Bow to add some extra texture and contrast to the card design.

A Peek Inside

I carried the botanical theme inside the card with more designer papers and a simple stamped sentiment.  There’s plenty of room to write a note on the blank sentiment panel so the card can be used for all occasions.

On With the Hop

Now hop on over and see what paper pretties Cheryl has in store for you.  Be sure to finish the hop over on the Really Reasonable Ribbon Blog.  You can answer Bonnie’s Question of the Month to be entered into a drawing for your own Southwest Vibe Ribbon Club Assortment.

Love My Herd Farmhouse Style Fun Fold Card

Simple Stories Vintage Farmhouse Garden Fun Fold Card by Kathy Clement PHoto 01

Love My Herd Farmhouse Style Fun Fold Card for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Hello, Friends!  Meet me in the barnyard for a peek at this Love My Herd Farmhouse Style Fun Fold Card made with Really reasonable Ribbon.  There are fun surprises around every corner!

Let’s start with the front flap of this 5 1/2″ square fun fold card.  I’ve layered up some ephemera bits, patterned papers, and stickers from Simple Stories Simple Vintage Farmhouse Garden collection.  Then I created a little nest from burlap string and some itty bitty eggs I found in my stash.  If you have a nest, you’ve gotta have a mama hen!  So I found these adorable chicken and rooster buttons in my novelty button box.  (I think they are made by Dress it Up!).

TIP: Making the  nest is easy1  Simply wrap Natural Burlap String around two fingers.  Slip it off your fingers into a puddle of hot glue.  Then add the mama hen button and the bitty eggs.  Once the glue has cooled, you can attach the whole ensemble to your card with hot glue.

TIP: Pick up on the floral background by adding a Light Coral Taffeta Bow to the corner of the flap.  A Light Coral Swiss Dots bow and flower on top add a pop of color and texture to the design.

Do the Flip!

Open the front flap of the card to reveal this motley crew of barnyard buddies.  There is a magnet hidden behind the designer paper to keep the flap closed.

Now you can open the front cover of the card to reveal a pocket and a tuck spot inside.

TIP: Score and fold a 4″ x 6″ journal card.  Then add gussets to the bottom and sides to create a pocket and hidden greeting.  You can tuck a little journal card inside the pocket.

TIP: Tuck spots are so easy to make!  Simple place adhesive on just the outer edges on the left hand side of the flower ephemera.  Then make a little 3″ x 4″ note card from a scrap of black cardstock and a 3×4 card from the collection.

Do you like to make fun fold cards?  I am always looking for a way to make the act of opening a card a little more exciting.  So I like them a lot!

I hope I shared some tips and tricks you can use today.  If so, I’d love to hear from you in the comment section.  Simply click on the blue “REPLIES” button located just beneath the title of the post at the top of the page.

Spellbinders May 2021 Amazing Paper Grace Die of the Month Vignette Garden Gate Simple Stories Simple Vintage Farmhouse Garden Kathy Clement Photo 01

Spellbinders May 2021 Club Kits Blog Hop: Vignette Garden Gate Morning Glories

Hello, Friends!  Welcome to the Spellbinders May 2021 Club Kits Blog Hop!  You should be coming here from  Amanda’s  lovely blog.  Today I’m featuring the Amazing Paper Grace Vignette Garden Gate and the Clear Stamp of the Month.   Morning Glories welcome you to open this charming gate and step inside for a refreshing glass of iced tea.

Farmhouse Garden Gate Tips and Tricks

Patterned papers and images from Simple Stories Simple Vintage Farmhouse Garden collection provide the perfect setting for this dimensional garden gate.  You’ll be happy to know that this gate came together quickly and easily.  Here’s how:

  • First, die cut 2 gates from cream cardstock.
  • Next, adhere the gates together to provide extra strength.
  • Now, gently round the gate by rolling it over the barrel of a marker to create a curve.
  • Then place 1/8″ foam adhesive strips on the left and right hand fence posts.
  • Adhere the posts to the card front one at a time.  After the first post has been adhered you can gently push the opposite post toward the center of the gate to create the curve.

Now you can tie a bow through the front of the gate, add flowers, butterflies and other embellishments to finish the design.

Making the Morning Glories

Would you like to know my secret tip for making the flowers on this card?

  • First, die cut a whole bunch of flower and leaf layers from scraps of cream cardstock.
  • Next, place the leaves and flower layers  in separate containers.  I used shallow recycled plastic snack containers for this.  (Smart Balance Snacks work great.)
  • Now, place a drop of Distress re-inker in the plastic container and spray in a bit of water.  You need just enough water to create a small puddle.
  • Next, tip the container around to color the leaves and flower layers.
  • Then fold paper towels and tip the colored leaves and flowers out to dry.
  • Shape the leaves by running a small ball stylus up the center.  Then shape the flowers by poking the center with a small ball stylus.  This will lift the petals and cup the flowers.
  • Now layer the flowers together with a dot of adhesive.  Then place Dries Clear Adhesive in the cup of each flower and sprinkle in a few Prills.
A Peek Inside

Create an envelope pocket inside the card. Then mat a 3×4 card from the paper collection on matching cardstock.  Thread a ribbon through the top and tuck inside the envelope pocket.    Now stamp a sentiment from the stamp set on patterned paper.  I love the fonts, tiny florals and sentiments in this set!  They are perfect for cardmaking!
