Sunflowers and Bees Birthday Card of the Month Tutorial

Sunflowers and Bees Birthday Card of the Month Tutorial with Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflowers

Hello, Friends!  Sunflowers and Bees are the perfect theme for our August Birthday Card of the Month Tutorial.  I’ve pulled treasures new and old from my stash and I’ll be sharing some fun tips and techniques as we make this lovely birthday card together.

August is a big birthday month in our family, and our sweet Liz, who just had her first baby, will be the recipient of this card.  She’s an avid gardener and grows the most gorgeous flowers.  She’s always careful to include plants for the pollinators, so she’ll appreciate the bee theme, too.

Tell the Bees and Lush Leaves

Y’all know I love bees!  A few years ago I found this gorgeous Craft Consortium Tell the Bees Special Edition paper pad and I just had to add it to the stash. Deep navy, botanical florals, and buzzing bees make this collection a favorite selection.

This really is a very simple card to make, so I’ll just share a few tips that you might enjoy.

First, try embossing a die cut panel instead of a whole sheet of paper.  Die cut an oval shape, spritz lightly with water, then place in the Spellbinders Lush Leaves 3D Embossing folder.  Rub Antique Linen Distress Ink lightly over the top half of the folder, close and run through your machine.  Spritz with a little mica spray, then brush lightly with Bundled Sage Distress Oxide Ink for a beautiful finish.

TIP: Always die cut before you emboss, as the embossing will be flattened if you reverse the process.

Stamp your sentiment with Cobalt Archival Ink, then immediately heat emboss with clear embossing powder.  This really makes it stand out.  Honeycomb and bees from Reneabouquets add the perfect finishing touch to the simple card design.

Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflowers and Reneabouquets Bee Themed Goodies

Next week I’ll teach you how to make your own sunflowers with Heartfelt Creations Rustic Sunflowers Stamps, Dies and Shaping Mold.  We’ll also make some HC Leafy Accents to add to the floral display.

I had one sweet Reneabouquets Sugar Bee and a couple of scraps of Honeycomb Beautiful Board left over from making last week’s Banner of the Month. They add the perfect finishing touches to this birthday card.

A Peek Inside

You can see more of these beautiful papers in the video tutorial below, but don’t you just love how elegant the collection is?

Dress up a packet of wildflower seeds with paper scraps, then die cut a gift card wallet with my Gift Card Wallet Die.  Emboss a little notecard to tuck into the card pocket, and this card is ready to give!

The papers are stunning. Japanese comes to mind with the colour palette and the simplicity of design, less is more so to speak. Adding the bees and sunflowers completes the scene. This is a beautiful card, and oooh that lace is so delicate and pretty. Well done indeed!

What a beautiful Bee card, Kathy! The sunflowers and that ribbon are gorgeous. They are just waiting for that sweet bee to collect her pollen. The inside is wonderful with the bee motif. I love the cute little hives. It’s a perfect card for Liz. Thank you for sharing! Hugs!

Your daughter will love this beautiful birthday card. I like the mustard seeds in the honeycomb as it adds such detail. I have this paper pad in my stash so thanks for the inspiration!
