The hop starts here and runs until 11:55PM on Monday, September 27th. One comment will be randomly chosen from a mystery blog to receive a $25 gift card to Heartfelt Creations. More details on that below.
Classic Sunflowers and Butterflies Shaker Card Tips and How To’s
Sunflowers make me happy. So do butterflies. Put them together in a shaker card design and you’ve got a whole lotta happy going on! here’s how this card came together.
- Begin by cutting a 5″ x 7″ card front from the Classic Sunflower Paper Pad.
- Next, use a craft knife to cut out the blank white panel on the right hand side of the card front.
TIP: Lay a ruler on the diagonal from corner to corner of the white space. Then cut along the ruler. Shift sides and cut again. Now you will be able to easily get your scissors inside the space and neatly trim along the borders.
- Then adhere Clear Cardstock to the back side of the card front.
- Now adhere 2 layers of foam strips around the perimeter of the clear cardstock.
TIP: Place foam strips along the edge of the cut away area, too. This way you don’t have to use as many sequins to fill your shaker element.
- Next, cut a 5″ x 7″ panel of patterned paper to serve as the background for the shaker box.
- Then trim out 2 butterflies from the collection. Adhere thin foam tabs or foam strips on the back side of the bodies and adhere to the background paper.
- Finally, fill the shaker box with your sequin mix and adhere the background paper to the foam strips.
Creating Classic Sunflowers
Stamp Classic Sunflowers on Deluxe Flower Shaping Paper using a mix of Saffron and Monarch Orange Archival Inks. Heat emboss with clear powder immediately. Stamp Leafy Accents with Olive Archival Ink and heat emboss with clear powder, too.
Swipe Mustard Seed, Scattered Straw, and Fossilized Amber Distress ink on a non-stick craft sheet. Spritz with water until beads form. Then color the stamped panels by tapping and swiping them through the puddles of ink. Heat emboss a second time so that the embossed areas are refreshed Then heat dry and die cut with the Classic Sunflower Die.
Now add details with the Golf Flower Shaping Tools. Then use sponge daubers to lightly brush Rusty Hinge Distress Ink over the raised areas. Fill the centers with Dries Clear Adhesive and Czech beads. Let everything dry. Then lightly spray with Glimmer Mist to add shine. Color, die cut and shape the leaves in the Leafy Accent Mold. Then arrange on the card front.
Adding the Details
Die cut the Birthday Ticket and back with foam tape. Adhere in the upper right hand corner of the card. Tuck metal charms beneath tiny sunflowers to finish the detail.
A Peek Inside
I love to decorate the insides of my cards as much as I do the outsides. When I do this, I feel like the card becomes a gift.
Turn a journal card into a tea pocket by adhering 3 sides. Tuck in a Pumpkin Spice Tea Bag for the perfect fall treat. Punch out a small butterfly, adhere to the bookmark clip with Dries Clear Adhesive. Then adhere the glass cabochon on top, also with Dries Clear.
If you cut the pocket out with 1/2″ margins on the sides and bottom, you can turn it into a pocket! Then you can fill the pocket with birthday treats.
This one has a vintage silver plate demitasse spoon, a cookie, a honey stick and two little tags tucked inside. You can write your personal message on the tags.
