Throwback Thursday Autumn Greetings Tutorial

Hello, Friends!  It’s September 1st, so I thought I’d share this Throwback Thursday Autumn Greetings Tutorial with you.  Maybe if we share a lot of crisp and cozy fall cards, the weather will catch on and start to usher in some cooler fall days.  Think it will work?  Let’s hope so!

My “search and rescue” mission in the Closet of Inspiration and Delight uncovered some delightful goodies!  First I discovered the remnants of Photoplay Paper’s Autumn Greetings Collection.  These warm and cozy colors, patterns and images were a great jumping off point for this card design.  Next, I located the Spellbinder’s Amazing Paper Grace Infinity Elegance Die and some copper foil paper.  Perfect, right?  Reneabouquets Fall Mix Mulberry Flowers and Acorn Bits provided drama and beauty.  I even found a sweet little fall apple sent to me from a dear friend named Becky.

Embellishing a card is always my favorite part of the job, so today’s tutorial focuses on adding all those wonderful little bits and bobs that help bring a card to life.

A Peek Inside

I had just the right amount of paper and images to finish up this sweet card!

The pocket gave me room to add this sweet and simple bookmark and a little tea wallet.

Can you believe it?  I actually found a packet of Apple Spice Chai Tea in my stash!  Sometimes all the parts of a project just seem to come together.  And that makes for a happy day in the studio.

Autumn Celebration Pocket Card

Autumn Celebration Pocket Card with Photoplay Autumn Greetings

Hello, Friends!  It’s amazing how a small gift like this Autumn Celebration Pocket Card can bring a big smile to the face of a friend. Cheery papers from Photoplay’s Autumn Greetings,  fall embellishments and a few fall treats are the perfect way to add sunshine to anyone’s day.

This front pocket card design follows the same pattern as a Kangaroo Pocket card I designed earlier this year. You can find that tutorial HERE.  Instead of adding a brag book to the pocket, I used it to house a little tea party in a box.

This is a great way to use up bits and bobs of a favorite paper collection!

It’s amazing what you can make with little scraps of designer paper, isn’t it?

A Peek Inside

Magnets placed beneath the designer papers keep the front flap from flopping around.

TIP: Tear the edges on small scraps of designer paper to add pretty borders to a entiment panel.  Use a coordinating stamp set to dress it up even further.

Create a pocket in the center panel to hold a pretty gift card wallet.

Again, use small scraps of designer paper and stickers to dress up the inside.  No one will ever guess!

This card is a great example of how you can adapt the kangaroo pocket card design for any occasion.  I hope you’ll take another look at the original tutorial and then have fun using it to create a fabulous Autumn Celebration Pocket Card yourself.

Pumpkin Chai Tea Themed Card

Pumpkin Chai Tea Themed Card with Really Reasonable Ribbon and Photoplay

Hello, Friends!  Today’s Pumpkin Chai Tea Themed Card is the perfect tribute to fall!  Everything I love about Autumn can be found in this card.  Tea?  Yes, please!  Fall flowers?  Oh, my yes!  Beautiful ribbons and trims?  Yes, again…thanks to Really Reasonable Ribbon.  Autumn hued designer papers?  Yes!   Photoplay Paper’s lovely Autumn Greetings Paper Collection works perfectly with all of the above!

Tips and Tricks

Photoplay Autumn Greetings Tea Themed Card by Kathy Clement for Really Reasonable Ribbon

Here’s a sneaky little paper crafting trick that I love to use.

  • First, select the tea pot image from the 3×4 cut apart page.
  • Then use a circle die to cut out the teapot image from the center of the card.
  • Now back the image with foam tape.
  • Next, tuck the top and bottom of the card behind the plaid patterned paper.  The image has that cute yellow/gold lattice pattern, and the border is already there so you don’t even have to mat it!
  • Finally stitch all the paper layers together on your sewing machine.
  • Die cut a doily from patterned papers, or use a store bought doily instead.
  • Adhere the teapot image to the center of the doily.  It’s a perfect fit!
Finishing Touches

I never quite feel that a card is complete until I have added some ribbon, or trims and flowers.  Before I adhered the stitched layers onto my card front, I wrapped the left hand side with Antique Gold and Brown Burlap String.  Leave the ends long so that you can string on some sweet little tea themed charms and tie a bow.

Add a pop of whimsy to the card with a Hedgehogs and Pumpkins Satin Ribbon border.  Again, adhere this to the card with Scor-Tape before you attach the card front to the card base.

Tie a pretty burlap string bow and top it with Mixed Earth Tone Magnolias and Roses.  Ink some leaves with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and add them to the bundle.

Here’s a peek at the inside of this warm, rustic card.  I made a little pocket, because if you have a tea themed card, one must add a little tea wallet somewhere!

Top a wee tag with more burlap string and add it to the pocket to keep the tea wallet company!

Have you started making fall cards yet?  I love working with the warm, nostalgic colors and images of autumn papers.  I’m still waiting for some new goodies to arrive, so hopefully I’ll have more to share with you soon.
